So I'm level 156, looking at a juicy, undefended planet from a guy in one of the top legions, who is in his 400's.

Do it but be prepared to get disabled, raided and hacked for as long as he has you on his feed.

he's SOL when the alert wears off. and if you stay disabled for the whole time the most he can do is raid you 5 times and hack you 5 times (provided you dont have any elevated counters)

It is easy to make the hurt last much longer than his log will record. Also, I would attack your entire legion so make sure they are ok with paying the penalties for your gains.

As the forums have shown time and again .. you do something to aggravate the big boys, and they buy up your planet locations ... unless youre sitting on trash the whole way through, are you willing to do that?

It isn't just buying up your planets, there really are ways to make you hurt regardless of your rank. You don't get to be a big boy without making a lot of friends and being owed a lot of favors.

And always remember the merc, we love to get paid to go after people for whatever reason, and the big boys can pay us very well. So don't be suprised that if you take the planet and flux it that mercs will be looking for you. So for whoever he takes this planet for Just message any of us Talon company and we will gladly take your minerals and artifacts.

It's one thing I've learned from Kaos and Dysonians - there are ways te hit ye longer than 2 days. Easy ways.

This is so true. Many of us will not come at you directly, but indirectly.

I had a top ranked planet in my database, undefended. I was so tempted but I knew the world of hurt I would be in. Just keep it and look through the forum for people buying planets of whatever Legion your planet belongs to. You'll get paid good money for it and you won't suffer horrible consequences. Just don't ever mention publicly who the planet belongs to.

i talk a planet from one of the galaxies biggest ships, then fluxed it, i got attacked and disabled for a bout 24 hours, thats it...

Tis what friends in low places arr for. We have a whole legion lower in rank than arrs, an friends who have plently o lowbies te help with such matters. If a legion has enough hate, an enough creds, they kin make ye pay fer a good long while. It might take layin a bounty on all worlds o yer legion, er givin rewards fer screenshots o scalps taken, but in te end vengeance is what te games all about. If ye arr brave, an fearless, an willin te take worlds from te big boys, it might get ye a whole mess o trouble, er get yer names inte recod books fer being willin te steal from anyone. Yarr!

Undefended planets are very hard to come by these days. Odds are if it's a big boy from a top legion and there's no defense on it, either the planet isn't worth defending or he's counting on cloak. Just take the thing but make sure you have a flux, because I PROMISE you he can take it right back.

EDIT: PS. The players rank realy has nothing to do with how how hard it will be to take the planet unless he starts defending before you can take it. His research level is what's important. Check how good the defenses are on the planet. Those are what matter, but since you said he has none, your golden.

Still up in the air about that particular planet.

By the way, all you 300-500 players in my database with Ultra/Mega Rich Massive/Very massive planets that have 15k defense and 40 production on it.. I hate you. I hate you so bad.

Unless the planet is owned by a legion or person known specifically for attacking your whole legion over your actions, I would say take it and flux it. It will hurt for a couple days, but the most they can do is zero you out for awhile.

Nothing sweeter than the little guy sticking it to The Man Yeah, they'll hack and raid your ass for a couple of days, but you'll make the losses back in hours if it's a semi-decent planet. And yes, they have ways of causing you trouble beyond the first two days, but there are tricks to deal with this as well. I've been chased by top tier legions and rank 50 players, and I've always come out ahead. Ignore the posturing, be smart how you do it, and enjoy your ill-gotten gains!

After being informed that they were targeting 12 of our Legion's planets and were going to call in 3 of their allied legions the person who had the planet negotiated a return. I was disabled 4 times and warped 18 and my rank is under 100.

We lost. We weren't even surprised we lost. As was said, "Sometimes ya just gotta try, it might slip under their radar."

Relevance: before you take a planet from another legion you need to know what kind of response they will have. The Paladins targeted the whole Legion because we defended it as a Legion. I am sure this wasn't a top 10 world for their player but it is just how they do things.

PS Most of us had a great time with the attempt, but we had one who quit our Legion after the 12 planet invasion threat was made.

what ever you do, make sure it is fun, some of my favorite moments in GL have been getting slain by players twice my size, then using dirty tactics to get them back, it may not be beneficial to your stats but people will remember you, perhaps even support you

Take it. I took a mission dyson from a top 5 legion without a single shred of retaliation.
