Being an inquisitive sort of person, I just tried a longevity serum, clicked out of the planet then back in to refresh the stats... no cloning pod required, bonus doubled....

Something weird is going on then, because that didn't just happen for me. It's still based on current population.

Dunno mate, "weird" sounds right to me... just checked and it is one of those planets where population automatically instantly filled rather than needing a pod to speed it along.
Have noticed that a few times now, have no idea how, or why.

Have noticed that a few times now, have no idea how, or why. Well, that clears that up at least; it was still using the current population.

I just tested it.... Used an arti that kills then removed it and put on pop structures... It didn't boost defense until I refilled the pop.... It really is based on current population... Doesn't that suck....

Have noticed that a few times now, have no idea how, or why. that's the same thing with increasing hull/shield right after a refill. the game effectively overfilled the stat until it is needs a check. and a check is usually any action that decrease the stat. You can sometimes(just sometimes) use a tri-matrix first and THEN remove a relay and still get the energy, same reason. Thou it usually only works for one relay(after which it probably made a check). need to done under regen timer I think, I think it also performs a check then.
