 Do these give any sort of reward for disabling or is it just xp?

I've killed a couple of Dranniks, and i've never had anything from them. That doesn't mean there is no chnce of getting something, but it means the chances are probably low.

Yep, it's a Shield equivalent of the Energy Relays and you can equip four of them. Just need to find the rest.
