I need help. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm level 80, but it seems that people at the same level are so much more advanced than I am. I have a lot of mission that are locked with qualifications of X number of player kills. I can't kill anyone. Even enemies that show up who are lower levels example a 67 who is a threat of Novice/Weak has much more advanced weapons and other equipment on their ships. Such as Psionic Amplifier and Prototype Mech XV. I have nothing of the sort. I've been advancing my research as much as I can but I seem to be far be hind still. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure if this is related to my seeming lack of development, but on the homepage it talks about it talks about "the derelict - chapter 2" is this something I'm supposed to be working on? And if so how? It sounds like some kind of mission but I don't even see how to start it (if you even can). Thanks for any help.

The derelict part 2 is the latest part of the mission chain and is the mission at the top of your list called Xecti Recrudescence

the psionic amp and prototype mech are not traditional research weapons. the psionic amp comes from a mission chain, and the mech comes from completing a certain amount of weapons. you can find out which ones on the wiki

The best way to kill people at lower ranks is to max out your hull, then max out your attack. Focus research on hulls and guns, and you should be getting a ton of kills in no time. If you do not have enough decks, uninstall scanners + cloak + defences + energy(in that order).

Some people don't recommend uninstalling energy unless you want to slow rank and have a really good PvP ship for your level (i.e what I am doing now).

At rank 80 ish you should have Heavy Disruption Cannons, and merged nanospheres. You can get a lot of kills very quickly with these equips.
