Does anyone have a benchmark of scan ranges different groups of levels should have before going on a scan blitz?
For example, do a scan blitz with 50 scan for levels 1-10, 100 scan for 10-40, 200 scan for 40-100 or something like that. (I just made those numbers up as an example.)
I'm level 50, and I just acquired a subspace seeker, so I was wondering if I should use it.

the benchmark to go by is your deck space and upkeep costs....
you always want the best scan possible, but you don't want to miss your next upkeep because you paid too much for your scanners

Well, I can sit here forever doing research on scanners, so I guess I'm looking for a certain number to aim for. Any recommendations?

that's why i didn't even mention limiting by your level of research in scanners..
DECK SPACE and UPKEEP.... those are your numbers to go by.... what can you afford (not what can you build).... and what can you fit

scanning for planets has nothing to do with your rank. The only things that count is your scan , the # of planets you have scanned , and luck.

Before X-Manifold, i would suggest 1 blitz for every 2 tiers of tech(tier means all 3 sub-tiers, so basically each 6 new modules) After X-Manifold, probably once per tier U should always prep energy cube or tri-max or even GP for energy refill so that u can have at least 3 bars of energy for the blitz make sure u have all 4 of the +scan artifact and do remember to apply them all. (note: at higher lvls where the stryll seeker artifact is more abundant, you can choose to do 3 blitz in a row each with 1 bar of energy and the 4 artifacts as opposed to 1 big blitz with 3 bars. it all depends on how rare +energy vs +scan artifacts are.)
In addition, if any of the following condition is met, you should go on a blitz again: You have gained more than 20% extra scans pre-buff via other artifact/module. What I mean is, if the # of scans u had at last blitz is for example 1000. If you happen to gain 3x surge plexus and 1x styrll hunt sensor since then for additional +200, then you should go on a new blitz as the amount does make a difference.
Or, if you have at least purged 30 planets since the time of the last scan. I would personally only blitz if i purged 50+ sense last spree but that's up to u.
But yes.... before going into a blitz... make sure u can actually build&afford all the scan u have at the same time... or it would be wasteful

My deck size is 185, so I can fit 2x Stryll Transponders, 2x Decryption Quad-Frame, 3x Wideband Scanner along with my reactors and cores. Use the subspace seeker to put me around 300 and scan away for an hour? I have an energy cube and some tri-matrix emblems. If I sell the scanners immediately, then I won't have to worry about upkeep, right?
I have 26 planets scanned in total.
Thanks again for the help! Sorry, I'm still trying to understand this game!

correct... if you're NOT planning on scanning again in the next 10 days (20 days if you're a builder) then it's cheaper to sell them when you're done... (DO NOT sell your decryption quads or your stryll transponders) also.. if you can get research up to subspace sensor lvl 1... then i'd say uninstall (again.. do NOT sell!!!) the quads and transponders to make more room for the more efficient (better scan per space) scanners http://galaxylegion.com/wiki/index.php/Scanners

Lone Lycan knows what he's talking about.
Scan is one of the most important things in the game because it helps you find more (and better) planets.
At low ranks the limitation is how many scanners you can fit in to get the max scan possobile. I'd avoid using the Styrll Transponder and Decryption quad frames in favour of more researched scanners because they have better scan/size.
The subspace seekr is really useful at lower ranks, as is the Tachyon Cylinder and Continuum Beacon. There's also an NPC which drops a Stryll Seekr for another little scan boost. You want all of these if possible.
when you next scan blitz it's worth burning lots of energy to find those good planets. As you burn through your energy you can uninstall reactors you don't need and swap in any extra scan modules. Remember to drop them back in if you want to use an energy cube.

Uninstall weapons/defense/hull/shield/cloak until you fit all your scanners(start with cloak and shields). If you start with uninstalled scanners, you will actually waste energy when you blitz.
