I'm currently going through zero point reactors and will probably do the next set of planetary structures after that; however I'd value any input from high level players (200+)

i think u need better def .. past inertial canc to microwarp.
i am rank 97 so if u were to pop up on my bt u would be easy target

I've already been knocked out a few times by rank 100+ folks. Perhaps I should have stated my objectives more clearly - I'm not trying to avoid being disabled by higher ranking players at all costs. I get knocked out every other day and I'm not overly concerned about PvP stats.

I do however want to be able to farm enough red badges for at least one of the Mk III dominion cannons before rank 100 (20 ranks time), and I would like to be able to deal with NPC's in fewer hits. I farm blue badges every few days with mixed success, occasionally someone will be offended enough to zero me, usually I just get tipped for a red badge or ignored.

Mission wise I'm pursuing the Kronyn chain whenever I can get flux probes, and the Genetarr Chain when I can't. I tend to do missions more often than PvP or PvE.

Ship size is currently 179 and I tend to run with 2 cannons, no def or shields, 5 platings, 3 cores, 4 relays, and a lot of "special" cloak/scan mods (3 Quad Frames, 2 stryll transponders, 1 stryll hunt sensor, 2 Zolazin Jammers).

Hope that makes things clearer.

If your going to PVP then take off scanners and cloak, saves some space lol. Go for Defence then Hul it helps a lot to stay in battle and takes a lot less damage per hit.

Micro Singularities. Skip +6 buildings - they don't help at all. +8 will be too expensive for you, so just stick to +5.

And yet you can't install MW nacelles... So you pretty much wasted all that research when you could have gotten something you CAN use. I'll reiterate a previous statement of mine.... NEVER listen to howesy... :roll:

At early ranks, you need hull not defense. Hull is more space efficient, and there is no point in having defense if you don't have any hull to defend. Research your weapons, energy, buildings and scan. Worry about defense and shields later when your research production is a good bit higher and ignore cloak.

from my experience, defense is always needed to stop players from disabling you easy (capping on you) and constantly having to repair against npcs/bases. and what do u mean he cant install microwarp nacelles? why not? so, defense, attack, hull, planet buildings, scan, has worked for me...maybe not you darth, but me....definetely

Didn't say HE couldn't install MWNs...

At low ranks, repair costs are so ridiculously low, it doesn't matter if you get capped. If you want to be able to fight in PvP or NPCs/Bases at low levels, you need Attack, Hull and Energy. By putting in a defense mod when you only have 2 guns, 1 core and 3 hulls you are wasting space. One Inertial Canceler Mk3 takes as much space (roughly) as 2 more Merged Nanosphere Platings (+580 hull pts) or one more Quantum Devastator (+159 attack) or 2 more Antimatter Reactor Mk4s (+166 energy) which all would be more to your advantage. At your level, more hull makes an attacker spend more energy than 1 measly defense mod does. More energy in conjunction with more attack lets you disable someone else easier and without worrying about running out of energy. How much TOTAL damage you can do or receive during a combat situation is what determines who wins, not how much is done on a single shot.

Rank is meaningless. Ship size is. After you can install 8 affordable weapons AND 3 affordable cores AND 4 best relays AND 5 affordable hulls. Then you can start worrying about defense. You need to be able to dish out a good ass-whoopin' before you need to worry about avoiding one.

You need defence long before you can fit 8 weapons. 6k hull is useless, if you have 90 defence and a damage cap of 400ish, swapping 2 guns (probably at that rank about 4-500 attack) for 1 defence module (probably about 3-400 defence) is by far beneficial.

It was a long time ago you couldn't fit 8 weapons Darth.

The strategy one of the 100ish I've looked at fairly closely uses 3:1 gun:defence. It seems to work for them. I certainly used 1 defence until I could fit 8 weapons.

I ran zero researched defense mods until after I joined TU around 350. I killed what I wanted, when I wanted and very few people bothered attacking me a second time.

For example: 4 Prejoran Power Diffusers give better defense than 1 Inertial Canceler Mk3 (40space/200defense vs 46space/150defense)

So at low rank (read low tech) the Mission and NPC stuff is worth MORE than researched tech. You're better off creaming NPC's for Dark Ring Thrusters etc and jumping through missions for your defense mods until you CAN fit all the other stuff.

I'd like to take them off, but I bought 100 flux probes from Honest Bung, and I need to do the missions to free up space (190 max cargo, and I don't want to sell "special" modules). This will cease to be an issue in a day or two though, so thanks :)

How expensive? I'm in an energy for KU legion (Volatithian) and have 12 billion credits to hand, I'm also about a day from hitting rank 85, when supposedly KU will start flooding in.

You can see ones that get shared by your legion until you have enough scan. Everyone from rank 60-450 can see the share even if they can't find one themselves.

Ok, so I guess I need to start completing "Mysterious World". I just noticed that chain has a pretty good xp ratio, maybe I can wait for the Genetarr stuff.

I also need a more active NPC legion, or maybe just a bigger one. I did give notice that I was leaving once I passed rank 85, but I have been tempted to stay by the offer of some VMEA planets... I guess I'll have to discuss with my leader and decide.

Thanks everyone for commenting on this. Still open to ideas on where the research should go, I have 1014/hour from planets, legion bonus is all minerals.

i run an even mix of weapons / defense, dont have any researchable hull plating on my ship and i make it along just fine. only people that bother attacking me are those that are 2+ times my rank when i get legion alerted. In my experience the more PVP/NPC/Mission stuff you can cram on your ship the better you are, they typically have a better turn around ratio [ at low levels ] for space to whatever, and their upkeep is generally low.

rank 148, only use 3 heavy singularities, and 2 phase shift engines, the rest of my ship is all PVP/NPC/Mission stuff

and whoever said that the +6 planet modules are useless is correct. If you can slam your research through the roof, and dont mind being patient [ slow leveling ] for a little bit, you can skip strait to +10 modules, you'll be broke for a bit but the payout is vastly worth it.

I suppose I could switch some of my arti planets to resource, as they're mostly oceanic/icy rather than desert and tend to have the same abundance for both. I also have a crystal planet which presumably was abandoned or shared to the inactive lowbie I took it from (I was only level 30-ish myself at the time). I probed it recently and only 1 person has it scanned, so the provenance is not certain.
