In the mist of this 'Galactic War' I have a completely unrelated question.

So I need your opinions on this. Here's what I need it to do:
  • photoshop or some other artist's program
  • good connection (as in it doesn't have occasional hiccups that piss me off [if it's even related to the actual computer])
  • LOTS of memory so it doesn't slow down
  • great graphic quality
  • reliable virus protection

How much are you looking to pay?

As long as it isn't over $2000 I'm good.

Yeah I'm mainly getting a new computer so I can continue my artshop at home. I do have a few pc games like RCT3 that I've been unable to play on my POS computer I've got now.

Honestly, I would choose either an Asus or MSI laptop. For the specs you get, they are very good. You can get a badass gaming computer that will handle anything you throw at it, and it only costs around $1200

I'm not a hardcore pc gamer. Honestly, there are only three things I use the computer for right now, GL, Happy Wheels (Hehe, too fun ^^,), and artwork. The reason I wanted extra extra memory was for RCT3, which I've been unable to play for a long time.

Which is why I'm saying get an Asus or MSI. You get a computer that can handle everything you throw at it, and you can save a bunch too. Would you like me to look up some models that fit your needs?

Now, this is what we call overkill. But still cheaper than $2k by $500+.

Bit bulky though, so I'm going to look for smaller ones.

Ahh, here we go. Still Asus, still has an i7 core processor, and will take anything you can throw at it still. And hell of a lot cheaper!

Ooh, now this one I like. 12GB of Ram. In a laptop. They are just playing with us now.

These three by themselves should easily do anything you throw at them. Personally, I would choose the second one, save the other grand, and use it on something else, like a girl. Or a game, if there is no lady.

Hope that helps!

it really depends on what you want from it.
do you want it to stay at home or take it with you?
do you want something off the shelf or custom built.
the last 2 systems i built was mine and my wife's.

It's something to stay at home.
Also, I'm not familiar with 'custom built'. Is that mainly superficial appearance?

Not at all! I have one of the most badass desktop computers possible, but you can't tell from the outside.
Its really easy to put together a computer. Like legos really.

Most desktop computers don't even need 12 GB of RAM.... Skyrim only recommends like 6

Well, it recommended I play on High settings... I have to play on low, or I get around 3 FPS.

Don't know if this has been said, but, build one. It's not really too hard.

no it's not, but it is very easy to get lost with all of the parts available to install.
no need to pick up a mother board with built in graphics if your going with a video card.
if your not going to use the full ability of a quad core, then a duel core may be more your speed.
why pay for a 500 gig hard drive if all your going to put on it is 20 to 30 gigs of stuff.
for an operating software, what works well with your software, win 7, vista, or xp pro.
do you really need 16+ gigs of memory when 4 gigs is more then what you will ever need.
