Legions help you in several ways:
-they provide a bonus for planets
-they help you out, with information or resources
-they get revenge for you (might scare off some attackers)
-they make for some interesting conversations
at least this is what my legion does, I'm more than willing to answer questions and if you want to join, you only need to be active, I can help you get started and show you some good planets
