That's a short period of sleep, usually 1-2 hours long. NAP= Non Aggression Pact. When 2 legions have one of these diplomatic treaties, they can not attack each other's ships or planets without breaking the agreement.

ah, makes sense now. So, I have to keep an eye on what legion someone belongs to before I attack/hack/raid? Or will I be alerted somehow beforehand if they show up on my battle tab?

Normally, members get to know who their legion is NAPped with, but yes... You will get a warning if you try to attack a player or planet. Above the attack screen, you will be given a notice to the effect of "this action will break a NAP, are you sure?" and you'll get 2 buttons, "Break Treaty" and "Cancel"

As well some legions have what is called soft NAP's, no formal Non-Aggression Pact, but a respected no attack agreement by both sides, usually battle pact allies, but some of mine are to prevent me from causing another war. This sort of info is usually provided when you join, but sometimes no one will let you know.

ya if you are going to another legion it is all ways a good idea to ask a leader or officer what rules you should know about. Such as NAP's and NPC's. A lot of legions don't want new members to lock on NPC's that their legion mates alerted. And if they do allow it they don't like others to bump someone off it. So you got to watch for those sort of things.
