I keep seeing mention of visiting around to other legions. Is this common and/or accepted practice? Wouldn't that lead to a legion's vulnerability when the visitor leaves and joins another legion? Also, would this be a good way to find a new legion to join permanently?
Thanks

It's very common and accepted especially when established players are the ones doing the visiting. New players need to be careful however about how much bouncing around they do. They will get a bad rep if they repeatedly stay with a legion only for a few days to a couple weeks before moving on. Letting the legions know upon joining that you are testing the fit usually helps though. Some vulnerability can happen when people switch legions, especially when they have shared planets. Normally that's only an issue at lower ranks because most mid- to high-rank players use Star Chart Purgers on planets they share for legionmates out of courtesy. Going to a different legion and either invading a planet you previously shared or re-sharing one with your new legion is definitely frowned upon and has been known to spark legion wars and kill-on-sight (KOS) treatment for the offender.

it is also good to point out that when you are of sufficient level to use the Collective Theory Lab (CTL or CTLab) if your legion does not have the discovery that you are looking for and another legion allows you to visit so you can use ther CTL, it is a 7 day wait period, same for planet shares now as well. So unless you are expressly looking for something or conducting business, 'just visiting' should really be limited.

Also be sure to ask about any rules that you would be expected to observe while you are there, this can save you alot of grief over what you might consider a 'simple mistake' or 'i was just playing the game'.
