When I did my scan run to get this medal, I had somewhere between 9500 and 9999 scan. It was a couple of months ago, but I know i had less than 10,000 scan. I was able to get 751 planets, but I wasted a ton of energy towards the end. |

How do you work that out? I scanned until the button was gray and then I put it in the wiki. i added some more points to the wiki ... the power equation i get from excel now is: y=1.0887x^0.7187 R^2=0.9994 if this equation holds true, the MINIMUM scan for the planet scan medals are as follows: frontier explorer (11 planets) : 25 deep explorer (51 planets) : 212 galactic traveler (251 planets) : 1939 eye of the universe (501 planets) : 5073 omniscient (751 planets) : 8909 |

9400 scan will get you about 760 planets before greying out but be prepared to waste a lot of E |

yeah, the numbers i listed assume a power series which may not be the case ... it could be a sawtooth with fixed inflection points, or some other pattern that we are not meant to glean easily. i did get the numbers from 500-600 with brute force, just adding scanning modules and scanning until grey. then i smartened up for the 2200s, threw everything on, got to 260 and then bought interim scanning modules to test out the various scan levels until i found the scan that allowed me an active scan, with one more planet turning it grey. if someone could do that at the 5k scan level to give us one more data point range, i think this approximation would suffice for most purposes. anyone looking to get these medals should try to get well beyond the number listed, so that they are scanning at least at a 'fair' level if they wish to save on energy ... these numbers are the upper limits for scanning at very poor and are HUGE energy sinks. |

someone pm'd me a point with 6207 scan. the power equation i get from excel now is: y=1.0909x^0.7182 R^2=0.9994 if this equation holds true, the MINIMUM scan for the planet scan medals are as follows: frontier explorer (11 planets) : 25 deep explorer (51 planets) : 212 galactic traveler (251 planets) : 1944 eye of the universe (501 planets) : 5089 omniscient (751 planets) : 8941 |

Cendant added a new point on 06nov. including this, excel gives an updated equation of: y=1.08862x^0.719 where x is the scan value and y is the number of planets the updated scan requirements for medals are: Name Number of Planets MINIMUM scan required Frontier Explorer 11 26 Deep Explorer 51 212 Galactic Traveler 251 1939 Eye of the Universe 501 5071 Omniscient 751 8904 |

I just did a scan run at 9812 scan. The button went gray after 783 planets. |

Darth Flagitious wrote: senatorhung wrote: ICBLF wrote: It looks almost linear with ODragons numbers and my single data point. If that holds, 9500 scan should yield 751 planets (results not guaranteed). when i added 0,0 as a datapoint, excel gives me this equation: y=0.0758x where y is the number of planets and x is the scan power if this holds up, the answer to the original question is 9895 scan power. Try that by using 1,1 because you start off with 1 scan and that finds 1 planet. That's the true Origin. However, I don't think it's a completely linear equation. 0.0758 seems to be a rather odd choice for a linear slope. We need to get some gray-out data points between 1 and 11k to get a more accurate relationship. I suggest we make this an Official Figure Out DanMath Project. I'm game! Count me in. I will do a scan run this weekend. |

updated page with Elfling's point, and also The Capzi's: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30474&start=20 updated formula is: y=1.08893x^0.7183 no change to MINIMUM scan required for medals. |
