Post subject:  Advice how to become a good attacker or raider?

I have been playing the game for about a week now and I really love it. I am currently playing as a Konqul Raider. However, I seems to have trouble deciding where to distribute my rank points each time I level up. I want to be a decent attacker, what is the general formula?
Deck = your level x ?
Attack = ?
Defense = ? (I really hate to be disabled all the time)
Each time you level up, how should I distribute my rank points? Please give me some advice if you are playing this game for a while now, your inputs are greatly appreciated.

I have a dark pyramid, I willing to send it to someone who I think gives me the best answer. Thank you.

Victor, your best bet for advice is to join a good legion. There are plenty of them out there who would be willing to help you with any questions/problems you might have.

I'd recommend either Delta Destroyers, The Invisible Storm, or Terranian Armada.

It would be easier to give you advice if you posted your current build. Number of decks, mods, overall attack/defense would make it easier for people to help you out :)

If you are interested in joining a pvp oriented legion, then I recommend you check out The Sith Acolytes. We have very experienced players here that can help you develop your ship to excel in the pvp aspect of the game.

There are a lot of different options for ship builds, but personally I believe at low ranks decks should be the focus of your rank points until you get around 2000 - 2500 decks (by then your artifact production should be high enough to support your ship through ship bots) or if your artifact production can support your decks before then start focusing your rank points either on tactical officers or engineers. (dont use rank points or rescued prisoners on helmsman, scientists or cargo they are easily gained through artifact production)

As a konqul raider and someone who wants an attacking build, weapons and tactical officers are important for building your attack. To take advantage of your raider profession I would add some tactical officers every now and then (your crew size helps with raiding success). If I was in your position I would add 4 decks and 1 tactical officer every rank then use rescued prisoners either to help with decks or to add some extra tactical officers when you can. This is just my opinion and obviously everyone is different.

Terranian Armada is a solid choice for a legion (thats my recommendation)

anyway best of luck

to answer the question without a legion advertisement.....

the answer: your crew are the sole determinant of your raiding success / failure chance, they more you put into crew, the more you'll succeed at raiding.
to address your other questions:
at low ranks decks are very important as they let you add more stuff sooner, generally people stop using rank points for decks at about 2k, i waited till 3k personally, its all in what you want out of your ship.

Best thing to use rank points on:
1. decks - until you get where you want to be that is
2. tactical officers
3. engineers - unless you want to rank up really quickly, in that case make this number 2

bad things to spend level rank points on:
1. helmsman - you get alot of thses later on when your arti production starts to flourish
2. scientists - same as #1 + there are NPC's later that give you scientists.

things that will help you:
1. if you are not in a legion that distributes equally get in one, doesnt matter which any will do.
2. if you go into research, that will help you get better stuff ALOT faster
3. if you go into an arti legion you will start seeing stuff like permenant ship buffs sooner - best if you are a slow ranker, otherwise you should visit a research legion.
4. While their are good legions out there, you really could learn all you need from the forums by asking questions and reading through this http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=20156&start=0

lastly when you get the chance ditch raider, only thing it does is increase the amount you steal from people not the chance to succeed, and at your level you'll not get much, if anything at all.

best of luck and happy hunting.

I disagree. Get your artifact as high as possible, and stop putting points into decks at around 1500-1700.

Raiding requires crew. As you're Konqul, I'd recommend putting some points into Tactical offers, as you will not regret these later on.

Decks, should either be 1x your rank, or as high as possible.

Recommended rank point layout:

Decks: 3-4 (up to 2k or 4-5k Artifact Production)
Cargo: 0
Engineers: 0-1
Tactical Officers: 1-2
Helmsmen: 0
Scientists: 0

Reasoning:
Decks are highly important, but have a finite use. Stop when you reach the parameters mentioned above.
Cargo will come from your artifact production. Be patient, sell stuff to free up space when you're tight.
Engineers are often useful, but aren't as effective early on as they are later. Feel free to invest in these when you want to rank faster, but be aware that ranking too fast will leave you with a tin can.
Tactical Officers: Whilst technically finite, the volume required to run out of use of tactical officers is ever increasing. If anyone has the value for the defences of Exotica whilst they are at their peak, times that by some 30 or so.
Helmsmen: These will come quickly enough with an artifact production, and defence modules are bigger and provide more force than attack modules.
Scientists: Will come from artifact production, and can fill a research-filled redundancy later on.

As someone else mentioned, here at The Invisible Storm, we can help shape you up and train you to be an amazing player.

Elerian, I recommended multiple legions as a source of assistance because there are far too many permutations to discuss freely on the forum. From whether or not this player wants to be a slow or a fast leveller to what kind of planets does he already have to support his desired end ship. Does he want to go ssb or msb or just go for a big honking ship? In legion just works better at resolving the many variables.

As for my personal recommendation, I honestly think that during the first 20 levels a player should put all their points in engineers and tac officers. It makes them a raiding beast while simultaneously benefitting from a tiny damage cap. Given good hulls (and they should be getting their proteans quickly) your ship should still be more than tough in combat for that level. The person of course will want to focus on getting their D Cannons to back up their offense. Then I'd semi slow rank up from 20 to 50 putting half my rank points into decks and engineers while saving half of those rank points for when the player turns level 50. At which point you assess your readiness to change from a moderate small ship build to a full blown deck monster. If the ship is ready for the change, then you dump all the saved rank points into decks. Once the player has all three proteans (if it should happen before level 50) all points should be put into decks until 1500-2000 decks are reached at which point they should go back to a 50/50 split between engineers and tac officers.

First few levels, I'd say all engineers. Then go all into decks, until you reach your required amount (Anywhere from 1.5k to 2.5k, depending on playstyle and rank at the time - I stopped decks at 1.6k decks, due to not needing anymore for guns, hulls, defences.) Once you've reached that point, you should have a good idea as to whether you want TOs or Engineers. I went TOs myself.

Im not discounting this, its just that instead of anyone simply answering their question they just told them to go join a legion. And jump on me for saying this all you want but, at low levels build doesnt matter, i didnt go the glass cannon route, never put researchable hulls on till i finished syncho. Had a set of every D cannon, and got got the quadframes by 50 and proteans by 100 with ease. - proteans werent around when i was that level.

Go 2 TO's + 1 engineers from prisoners, and 5 engineers from ranking. Semi-SSB has started to show some results, but make some things fairly difficult (eg: scanning, hacking)

Thank you very much for all of your input in a short amount of time. I wasn't sure of how I wanna play so I stayed at level 11 and keep hacking them ship. I just got a CipherBot and Decryption Quad-Frame. Apparently, I pissed off someone so they personally targeted me. Oh well, I picked the best answer and I think I will follow his advice, it seems like a very good plan for my style of play:

Thank you so much for your advice Jawwa. I know that my dark pyramid doesn't mean anything, but if you want it, you can pm me the link to your facebook. I will personally add you as a friend and send it to you in the game.

Victor, I really don't need a dark pyramid. Good luck with your ship.

Nice one Jawwa. Now to turn this into a recruitment thread.
You see the advice Jawwa just gave there, that is literally only a small fragment of the advice he gives DAILY, ask any long time members of the TA. To get this and much more, you know where to find us. :P
