Just some friendly advice.
Before you invade a planet, check out what legion that planet belongs to. Obviously if the planet is one of ours, or the Nova Republic or the Desperados, or one of the other powerful legions all hell is going to rain down upon you.
Just because you flux it doesn't mean you will get away with it. I have HUNDREDS of planets in my database. My legion mates do also. So odds are the legion you took the planet can find 3 or 4 planets that belong to your legion mates and they will pay the price for your action.
And speaking of your legion mates, often they are hunted down and attacked mercilessly because no one goes to war against one person, they go to war against your entire legion. Just because you hide doesn't mean everyone in your legion can.
So what if you give it back? The person you took it from has still lost production, structures, artifacts and the cost of invading it which can be in the Billions of credits. Their legion has expended resources and energy that could have gone to more productive things
All of that can be avoided. It is not a matter of threats or bullying. The simple fact of the matter is if you take someone's planet you should realize they will use every possible means to make you pay for it. It is not you invading a planet but your legion declaring war on their legion.

While I would say that yes before you take a planet you should consider the retaliation it may cause, I find it sad that some legions think that this means that this is a legion war. I have always considered it simply that the planet was taken, if we can get the planet back and/or cause other harm to the player that took the planet then so be it. I would never send the entire legion to search and destroy another legion just for that. Yes the invading of a planet can go out of hand with retaliations back and forth to be a war. This is why you should think about it both when you invade and when a member of your legion calls for an all out war on another legion for anything. Do you really want to cause this to be a whole war on something that could be handled player vs player.

I agree with Elite dragon. Depending on the type of world that was taken from you it should not mean a full on war with the other legion. If a Dyson was taken from you or an exotic then yes in that case I could see a huge war. But just a norm world should be handled one on one for the most part. Unless the player who lost the world stands no chance against the other then I could see them calling for help.

If someone takes a planet from me I give them a chance to work it out. But not if it is fluxed right away or if the player is much higher ranked then me.
If someone, as just recently happened, outranks me by 30, 40, 50 or more and takes one of my best planets and fluxes it without so much as a thank you in my comms it is an insult.
If the legion does not respond to our request for a worked out solution then war it is.
If someone takes a minor planet I do not alert the legion at all and attack the thief as much as possible and tell them it is personal and that I will not notify. If they are cowards and notify then I do the same.
Every case is unique. within every legion there are players who will take planets during a war and those like myself who only take in retaliation.
But remember this is a war game not a politics trainer!

For me it goes:
If it is a powerful planet and powerful foe, I share the planet. If it is a powerful planet and weak foe, I deal with it myself. If it is a weak planet and a powerful foe, I leave it alone. If it is a weak planet and a weak foe, I judge it against other planets I would rather colonize.
If they don't flux it, I will leave the player alone and just take the planet back (if they happen to be guarding it, I will disable them only for the purpose of getting past them) If they flux it (or if they sacrificed the planet's production to prevent me from taking it back), I will take on the player. If the foe shares me to their legion (when they were the ones who took the planet), I don't care who you are I will run you into the ground and share both the foe and the planet to my legion.
In all combat, I will take revenge only as far as the opponent takes it.

The point in having a legion is so that you aren't in it alone. The legion of a planet shows up on the planets stats for a reason. And there are often negotiations but most of the time they aren't willing to give the planet back. If they were, why would they have taken it in the first place?
And who is to decide how valuable a planet is? That Extremely Rich Terran may be the best planet a player has. It may be a major portion of his production. Maybe he doesn't have the energy to take it back? What about all the resources, energy, production and credits lost?
Add to that the majority of people who take a planet send out an alert for help defending it afterwards. They are involving their legion. Is someone supposed to take a planet that has since been heavily fortified and guarded by 5 ships alone?
If you invaded an army base the Captain doesn't go trying to get it back by himself. He calls everyone in his division. Invasion is an act of war. Always has been, always will be.
The simplest standard is just to expect full scale attack. Attacking a player directly is a one on one fight. Taking his planet (that has a legion bonus) is going to get that entire legion involved.
I am not saying "You should never invade." I am saying "Realize what you are doing to yourself and in turn the legion you belong to."

I agree with both of you.
I try not to scream bloody murder over a hunk of junk taken by someone lower ranked. Good for them they have some courage.
When a senior member of a legion hits a much lower ranked player then the planet could be a microscopic paper machet planet with -20 poor resources it is war at that point.
In my recent case it was my second best planet and 4x mega by someone 39 ranks higher! War is almost certain!
This is good advice to those who do not understand the repercussions.

If someone takes one of my planets, and its a good one, ill fight for it, and only if I need the support ask for help. Otherwise I handle things myself. Now if it gets fluxed, I get to do WHATEVER I WANT TO YOU for as long as I have an alert on you. Now if its a good planet and its a major legion, if you take it and fight well for it I may let you keep it, but I might just get my legion to help out.

Actually you can probably take Desperadoes off of your list of legions to be wary of. I took a very massive exotic from one of them, and over the course of the day I have had 6 of them try to take me down, including one of their leaders. So far I've scored 1 disable and 1 raid to their 1 hack.
Overall, not very impressed.

I find it funny that we're talking about wars starting from the taking of planets. When all I do is take planets because of a started war... LoL
My advice... If there's one rule someone should follow: Never, EVER, use a Star Chart Purger on an enemy occupied planet.
Carry on.

~ Drake I gotta disagree. If you invade crap planets you are doing them a huge favor. I refuse to defend any of my planets below the median in hopes that someone might invade them. Aside from the extra production from the space, the next planet I settle will be about as good or better anyways and it makes them waste a flux or lose production from defending it. I usually share them with my legion eventually since people all have different standards and philosophies on the matter.

Yes but enemy occupied planets are an almost guaranteed way to get a free link to the person owning it. That is if the planet is good of course.

My point is I don't ever delete them, doesn't mean Im going to invade every one of them. A seasoned player can look over the planet's attributes, then size up the defenses (if any) and determine whether it's a viable target. Besides, Im not referring to a tiny, very sparse barren that some rank 11 found and then quit a week later. No I made my case. Don't ever purge enemy planets. One day, they may just give you an edge. i.e. Attack a crappy planet, see who comes to guard. Attack a good planet, see who comes to guard. Attack a whatever planet, see who comes to guard, then attack your REAL target. Or, attack their planet, make them tear down buildings to put up defenses. Or, attack a planet, and then harass any guards you... Wait, am I giving away all my secrets????? Shameful Kaos, SHAMEFUL. ~ D
