| Post subject: | How to Get members to join Legions? |
Im Level 136 atm been a member for awhile! Just curious on how to get people to join legions? I recently left the one i was in to start my own but all i have is level 2-20 players -_- so yeah not many people will deal with me in diplomatic situations unless i figure something out all help is greatly appreciated thanks! |

Unfortunately, many higher ranking players are generally content in their current legions, resulting in fewer players moving about at the higher ranks. Many new legions (and leaderboard legions) get applications from newer players due to their easily found status (in the first pages of the Legions search and the Leaderboard). Legions with more high rankers generally get more applicants too (particularly if you have several high ranks and plenty of low ranked players, as players can see those low rankers on the BT and see that the legion has plenty of high ranking players). I actually first joined The Sith Lords in the period when they were Radiant Genome, as they had several strong ships I saw commonly on my BT (cerca rank 15), and they had some rank 300s (which at that time I thought was insane). |

I understand the appeal of starting your own legion and being in charge, but there are 1000+ legions everyone tries to be their own leader and it is sad because you get a bunch of weak legions that either get abandoned and forgotten or you make 1 or 2 really good players who leave and join the top 10 because everyone in the legion aren't of like mind. I rather see the 1000+ reduced to like 200-400 condensing everyone in fewer legions. Interact, working together, become friends and conquer the galaxy as a legion not an individual. I realize this is not going to happen but one can hope. You want people to join so do the other 1000...make yours stand out. Having a high rank player or base, having a group that works well together and fight together. Fight a war and make yourself known to the galaxy. |

Advertise in the Legion Forum Officer Comm small legions ingame offering a merger Hope and pray to whatever god you believe in are the only 3 methods that spring to mind. Although you can get members from the weirdest of ways xD *Got 3 members from 3 seperate planet invasions* |

Personally, I found that what makes a legion isn't so much what you think of it. It is really what others think of it. For the longest time my legion had a difficult time getting up to the required status. However, those lower ranked members that did join tended to stay with us for quite some time. Many of them are still with us to this day. Because of their loyalty we slowly grew. Then, we got a few new members who were so active that things began to change for the better. We became known on the forums as a training legion for some time and as of late have been trying to grow a little bit more. So my best tips for you; stay active, have patience, and lurk around the forums a lot and get people to like you. I know that helped me a ton! |

Back when I started, many legions had to beat people away with a stick. Now, it is not unheard of (in fact it is a regular occurrence) that even the top 10 legions post recruitment threads. I don't say that to discourage you; just to lay out some simple facts. There is less legion hoping than you might think. And even those who do move around tend to stay within their "family of allied legions. Movement occurs generally because of the following: 1. Promotion- going up from training legion to main legion. 2. Assistance- going down from main legion to help in training legion. 3. Trading- going from main legion to another for planets or other deals. 4. Disgruntled*- going from main legion because something upsetting has happened and the person wants a change (or the legion has put them out, either way). 5. Creation- going from main legion to form another legion from scratch (could be Disgruntled, could have left on good terms either way). This could also include a merger. 6. Bored- going from main legion because the person is on a "galaxy tour" or a "walk about" or simply seeking new adventures. this person may be gone an extended period of time, but still feels primary allegiance to the main legion and will likely return "home" at some point. So with this list, you see an interesting reality; namely that most moves are temporary (or, in the case of the Creators, you will only get them if you are willing to change too). You will likely only get a new long term player from number 4 (maybe number 6, but that is ify since they are driven by their boredom at this point). To get player type 4, you would have to some how convince this person that your legion will be better than the problems they are leaving at the last. The means of recruiting are as follows: 1. Advertise in Legion Forum- not sure how effective, but it is free and worth a shot 2. Mergers- probably the best way to double or triple over night but you have to plan them carefully or they fall apart. 3. Hope, Pray- obviously I was trolling, but still, a little luck is always good. sometimes you catch people at the right time or in the right situation and you gain a good member 4. Mid to High Ranks- you don't need an army of them (well you do, but not for recruiting), but you will do much better if someone clicks on your legion and sees a good 600-800 rank ship already helping out the 100-300's. 5. Battle- it might sound funny, but you would be surprised the number of people who said they joined xyz legion because someone from that legion kicked their azz. bahahah. at a core level, people respect strength, so you have to show you have it. 6. Vision- you have to differentiate yourself from all the other legions by offering something new or at least you have to sell the same old people on the notion that together you can do the same old stuff better than it has been done before. 7. Good Name- this is individual and legion wide. as others have said, you have to get known; either by war and conflict or by personality on the forums. I would make sure I had a cool logo; something easily identifiable. Which brings me to my last point: 8. Brand New Players- I haven't tried it yet, so I am not even taking my own advise, but if I were to create a legion, I would focus half my time, if not more, on forums OUTSIDE of here. I would go to most any sci-fi hot spot and hunt for gamers. I would go to the Stargate sites, for example, and talk up Galaxy Legions. I would then tell them I already had a legion by that same name (Stargate) and that I could get them started. The down side of course is that when they arrive, they will be looking for whatever interested them the first time (i.e. Stargate type stuff, or Battlestar type stuff, or Firefly type stuff). Since this game is not those things, they might get disillusioned, so the next effort would be to transfer their interest into the great things this game has to offer. Facebook in general is like capitalism, you need expanding markets to continue real growth. All of the games (Castle Age, Mafia Wars, etc) need fresh supplies of new folks. Failure to do this in Galaxy Legions means that you and all of the new legions will be begging for the same already established players. Roll dem dice and good luck! |

Merging with Ira Imperitus Vis Mortua is an option. We have 20 members, and a level 5 base. |
