actualy that's pretty decent you just need some more defense if your moving out of the SSB, and you may need some mining soon you can't have people giving you money for upkeep forever but right now it's easy.

At rank 23 defense isn't a big deal, focus on hull and attack. Maybe grab the Trinity-Core Drives if you have some GP.

Over of the big benefits of the ssb is you dont need def. And ssb isn't a waste of time. Just a pain that's worth it long run. Wil say should buy fathers before trinities.

2 dominion cannons + 1 protean armory = 24 space fill with researched hull or some energy.
Stick to decks = rank + 19 and in the medium term you will outclass guys that are in bigger legions.
Dont worry about research too much and try to get yourself into a lvl 5/6 artifact base if you can. Just pvp and raid like mad to get your last 2 proteans.

What's your reasoning for it being a waste of time?

If you plan properly, at around rank 100 you can move away from an SSB into a real fighting machine.

It's all about relative strength. for the energy spent you get more from npcing. Npcing then freezing would be better than missions or pvp(assuming have battle market stuff already) up to the same point.

Pichu.. at your rank range guns get priority, then hull, then def. Resetting at rank 23?? no reason. Small ship build is completely worthless at rank, but serves well til 150 or so (worth saying keeping a deck/cap ratio in mind even longer is helpful also). Best to develop a kill ship regardless if you like pvp or npc (as you know you will do loads of both). But as mentioned above now is the time to kill like a beast. Reds are never easier than 150 and below, and the dominions are strong for your rank (size/dmg/upkeep). Expect a very detailed guide doc to be available within days to all SA legions for developing extremely effective low rank kill ships.
