Is there an ideal planet/scan ratio? At the present time, my scan is 3519, I have 235 planets in my database. (108 owned, 45 enemy owned, 2 Legion owned, and 80 unoccupied) My scan chance rating is now "fair" but goes to "good" when I use a scanning artifact such as a Stryll seeker. I know that I can purge some planets to increase my scanning ability, but I'm aiming for the Galactic Traveler medal. How much do I need to permanently increase my scan in order to have a "good" chance rating? Is there a ratio to follow?

We're still working on the equation to figure out Max Planets vs Scan. You should probably be able to reach 251 with around 4k scan. Just use all four scan buffs and you should get around 4700 if your unbuffed scan is 3519. Just remember to use the Tachyon Cylinder and Subspace Seeker BEFORE the Continuum Beacon and Stryll Seeker.

At lower levels, it is easier to research the next tier of scanners to get more scan (just remember not to become weak!)

For galaxy traveler, I would say get 4k scan to get it with a poor scan at the end.
