Theory Engine under the tech Deep Extraction

What exactly is this Engine? I'll have to wait days to get the research to obtain it.
I could use engines that are better than my Quantum Capacitors tech.
Do these engines only apply to planets?

They are just a higher tier research structures.
EDIT: Quantum cap? You get upgrades to these by researching Advanced power systems...

Basically when you research structures there are 3 per tier. The theory engine just adds +4 to research and is size 11. Yes they go on your planet as everything in that tier goes on your planet. Some of the things in that tier add population also. But basically it is just a research structure that goes on your planet.
