Just curious, since it wasn't in your stats listed above, how many crew members do you have at your rank? At rank 158 I have 690 engineers.

The "rank as fast as possible" strategy is probably THE worst thing you can possibly do. As an example, Shane Betten. He set his personal goal of reaching rank 1000 as fast as he could. Ask any high rank player who knows him. His ship was well and truly garbage.

Outside of pvp though speed ranking does result in a stronger ship faster if done right. Done improperly though... Better stock up on halcs...

Research is irrelevant. It's all about artifact production and crew numbers. I'm 60 ranks above you and here's how we compare on crew: You ----------- Me 1325 Decks 1321 1740 Cargo 12185 459 Engineers 1603 23 Tactical Officers 1563 156 Helmsmen 500 569 Scientists 1497 But to answer your question, the fastest way would be to find the mission with the highest xp output, and use a lot of GP energy refills. You could probably do it in an hour or so. Do I recommend this? No. Do I think this would be extremely stupid? Yes. But it is indisputably the fastest way.

I hope by this, you don't mean you've been putting rank points into decks and scientists? I was doing that early on, until suggested to put them into only Tactical Officers and Engineers, as anything else you can gain from your hourly AP pulls.
422 Decks 700 Cargo 690 Engineers 456 Tactical Officers 184 Helmsmen 153 Scientists
Almost 100 ranks below you, and 200 more crew members... so I would strongly suggest getting those Engineers and TO numbers way up, especially if you're wanting to rank quickly.

I can see where you'll end up with this, I ran across a rank 800 on my BT a week ago with (probed) 3.1K defense and 3.3K attack. Can't say that play style appeals to me, but I sure like finding those ships on my BT or scanning their planets (given their highly decreased odds of being able to take back a planet).
Energy can do a lot in missions, bases, offensive PVP when the other ship is offline, NPCing, and scanning. However, I see invading as a crucial aspect to a solid planet strategy (due to taking upgraded planets thus multiplying your own efforts) and this plan leaves you out in the cold on that one. Also, other than making missions and scanning a little more costly, having a well rounded ship seems to help with every other aspect listed above as much or more than the pure energy/ranking build.
To each their own though.
