I started the game just a few days ago, but i am interested in business part of the game.
Right now im rank 25. Focusing on decks to get space. My research is quite good per hour too now 121/hr .
But i am not sure how to exactly get the most needed arties and other valuables that would make you a merchant in starters.

Can a fellow merchant maybe explain where to focus more? More arties planets, arties from missions, resource mining or other pointers.

I am a newbie so would like to hear some good advices, thanks. :)

If you want to play exclusively as a merchant, then artifact production will be the most important. Artifacts such as time manipulators (at least 750 artifacts points to pull) and ancient crystal foci (at least 400 artifact points to pull) can sell for hundreds of millions of credits each. Other popular options are to sell good planets you've scanned by alerting them while you're in a legion, or selling exotic matter (comes with mineral pulls) or complex tech parts (drops from rogue tech collectors once you can get 50 scan to find them but a pain to kill at lower ranks, or by scrapping modules dropped from most >3-player-needed NPCs)

I would suggest focusing on other aspects at low ranks, though, such as hitting other ships, as it becomes increasingly difficult to do (easily) later on. In addition, being a higher rank will allow you to hold more artifact planets (maximum number a player can hold is (rank/4)+1) to increase your artifact production and the chances of those artifacts being pulled. The galactic trade center becomes available once you hit rank 50, so you can start selling on it then.

I only have a bit of experience with trading, but I'm sure more experienced merchants will be around shortly to help :)

Hi I used to be a huge trader in this game. I have not been trading as much as of late though do to it taking a lot of my time and I am getting to busy in RL to keep up with the trading part of the game. If you really want to get in hardcore with the traders then there are a few things you should keep in mind. First off get into a few of the FB GL trade groups. There are many many many of them. lol Next get to know people. The more people you know in the game the better trader you will be. And its also about who you know. So just knowing a bunch of other low ranks and trying to trade with only them will get you no where. But if you get to know a few really high end players as well then you are in business. You see players like me who are at the top of the game need people out there who will take the time to find trades and gather a ton of arti's that they need for them. So it would be your job to take time to know what the market price is for things and to gather what you need and sell to high end players in bulk for just a bit higher then what you paid for them. Now take note that there are a good amount of other players out there doing the same thing so we will know and can check to see if you are being honest with your prices. And it if you try and screw us over you will not get any good trade partners for a very long time since we all know each other up here. lol So that is the next thing you will need to be if you want to be a trader. Honest. If you are honest and up front with us we will trade more and more with you. Also speed comes into play when you are a lower end trader. The faster you can get the products to us the better. Now I do know that was a lot of info really fast for you there and you may think its to much and not for you and thats fine. No one would expect you to be a trader like that over night. It does take time to build up a good contact list and to get to know who to trade with and what chats to go to. So maybe you would like to start out as even one of those traders who trades to the people who trade with us and build from there. They are good contacts to have since they can introduce you to people at the top of the game and a good word from them can build your name pretty fast. Hope that helps if you have any further questions let me know and I will see what I can do to help. If this was all to confusing for you then let me know as well and I will see what I can do to simplify it for you. :P lol

To sum up what you need to do to start out though is get some good arti's saved up. Build up your cargo space a bit more and then start talking to others in game and trading your arti's for CTP or creds. Then keep trading for things and try and make a profit. Good luck!

Thx for the good replies. I red that contacts would be necessary already, but those might only come when i get some arties to trade and so maybe increase my recognition.

Some questions:
1.I know that there are arties which are not in demand at all, but is there a list which would show the demanded arties?
2.I have already 3600/6000 artifacts in the production, but reaching 6k would be the best option in order to get better arties?(And can the cargo be notbig enough to support the artifact which i might get and it would dissapear or any other option?)
3.Why is player attacking important? Doing missions i get xp and even sometimes arties, but pvping needs a lot more research. I have been researching energy maximization, scanning, production and cloaking, isnt this a good strategy to get a fast income of artifacts, research and levels? Right now i have 5 good planets(not counting the first planet): 3 research,1mining,1arti.

I can't answer #1 since I don't trade enough

2) it's possible to not have enough cargo to fit all of your artifacts; unused artifact points will stay in the bar to pull from. however, as your artifact production increases, artifacts such as tesseract containers (10 cargo space for 1400 points? Someone wanna check that?) and mass storage pods (60 cargo space for 20, 000 points) will allow you to increase your cargo. Don't put rank points into cargo because those artifacts will drop more frequently later on, once your production is high. As for when to pull, you want to do so before you production caps (since you won't get more points once it does) but after you have 4000 in storage (for rescued prisoners to improve your strength and energy - even if you're exclusively a trader, it's still good to get those)

3) unless you want people like me disabling you 3x a day and stealing artifact and mineral points in raids, you do want to have a strong ship. In the lower ranks, a good battle reputation will keep most people from attacking you

It is never to early to start building your contact list even if its just asking for help from them or becoming friends with them in game. I have several in game friends who I don't trade with often but still talk to.

I don't know if there is a list of in need items if I am wrong here I'm sure someone will let us know. lol But I would say save your TM's, cages, flares, and ACF's for sure.

I would say yes that at the point in the game you are at that saving up more arti's is better. Each arti you get only takes one space so you don't really need to worry about that and if your cargo does fill then it will just not allow you to spend any more of your AP and save the rest of your points so you can use them later when you get the cargo you need. Just like if you collect mining and run out of cargo. Nothing is just wasted.

You are still very low ranking so PVP is easy for you right now. The more you PVP the more badges you will get which will allow you to get good artis that you can only get from badges. The more you rank though the harder it will be for you to get said badges since others out there will know how to better protect against such attacks. Also I don't know if your in a legion or not yet but if you want to be a trader I would get in a decent legion that gives out AP as a daily thing. That way you build up your supplies and your cargo just by being in a legion. I would also take more arti worlds when you can. They are key and one is not enough. lol

Artifacts in demand, from most demand (just my opinion on it):
[Planetary Flux**, Artifact Warehouse, Mineral Storage Tower, Research Data Archive]*, Ancient Crystal Foci, Time Manipulator, Dark Pyramid, Repair Nanodrone, Drannik Saboteur, Nanite Swarm Capsule, Quantum Flare, Calming Amp, Continuum Beacon, Shield Restorer
* GP Items
**GP Item/Obtainable by NPC(s)

Post subject:  Re: Merchant player support.

i used to trade quite frequently, but have slowed down of late.

the one caution that i would advise is to figure out WHY you are trading, that is, for what purpose IN-GAME, you are doing all that trading for. trading just to build up a credit balance is very unfulflilling, and one big purchase leaves you going back to the grind.

early on, i traded artis for ctp and KU to help build up my base and pay for my upkeep, which was still high enough that the builder profession could not keep up.

once i got my exotic and dyson, that was no longer an issue, so trades were for just ctp and em for base building.

now that base building is no longer an issue, ctp is not worth much to me except as a currency to buy higher-value artis or planets. so, i am trading artis that i find less need for, to get other artis that my playstyle does demand (time manipulators, in my case, for raiding). the people trading TMs to me find ACFs, repair nanos, shield amps, etc. (NPCing / pvp-ing) more to their liking.

as the other posters advised, join a couple of the trading forums. the one i use most is:

http://www.facebook.com/groups/183521015082350/

lurk a little bit to figure out the prices and what is in demand. then, just start trading and learn as you go. just be careful not to flood the forums with trading posts .... once a week updates is usually frequent enough, as some traders do not deal in the smallish quantities that you will be able to supply - they only deal in blocks of hundreds. anything that is not in high-demand on the forums can be sold on the GTC, or even scrapped right out if the GTC does not even want them.

your list of what 'sells' will depend on who you deal with, and what times of day you interact with the GTC, but others have already given you an idea of what the most popular artis are.

good luck and have fun !

edit: oh, one more thing, i use a spreadsheet to keep track of all of my trades - when i traded, who i traded with (fb name / forum name / in-game name / rank / legion), and what was traded by both parties. some pilots / legions will be open to exclusive trading arrangements for certain artis if you prove to be a consistent supplier.
