Post subject:  My crappy ship, and my plans for turning it around.

Greetings ladies and gentleman.

I started playing this game ( According to the medals. ) on July 24, 2010.

For the first approximately 3 years of playing, I made many, many mistakes. Huge, massive mistakes.

For the past several months, I have been working, slowly but surely, at turning things around. I shall discuss my current plan, on which I would like some input if at all possible, after giving my stats, so without further ado, here they are.

Updates are in the comments, not the original post.
This is designed to make it easier to track the progress of my ship over time.

If I missed any information, please let me know and I will add it. ( I know I skipped over a bunch, but not sure what information you all would like. )

A large number of my planets ( I do not have numbers off the top of my head. I intend to go through them this weekend and compile information. ) are rather bad. Remarkably so.

My current plan to fix my ship is as follows :

First, I intend to reach rank 600, and then freeze there. I suspect that I will be sitting there for, at the minimum, the next 2 - 3 months, possibly longer.

At that point, I will then start going through my planets, dropping them as money allows. ( I should be able to drop all of the ones I need to fairly easily. ) I will balance this out, naturally, with my production values. Doesn't make much sense to drop them all and have nothing to replace them with, thus screwing myself in both the short and the long term.

My short term goals for my planets are :

1 ) Completely get rid of all research planets. I intend to switch over to scientists from artifact production to provide that production.
2 ) Acquire 25 mining planets that produce 500+ production rates per hour. This will provide me with enough income to take care of upkeep, especially once I change from Builder.
3 ) The rest shall be switched over to artifact production planets that are Very Large, Ultra Rich. ( Each one will produce over 200 production points a hour, and aren't very likely to be stolen, and even if they are it won't be too big of a loss. )
4 ) Producing enough storage worlds that I can store 12 hours of income in them. ( Due to personal schedule. )

Long term goals are to eventually switch over all planets to artifact planets that can produce 500+ production an hour with a large amount ( 25,000+ cloak. ) with no other types of planets. At that point, I will be relying on research contracts for my source of income.

My personal ship goals are as follows :

Energy to rank : 15:1
Attack to rank : 60:1
Defense to rank : 60:1

I want my hull to be high enough that it will take a minimum of 50 shots to kill me. ( That is a lot of Duratanium brackets... )

I intend to produce a steady supply of income both from artifact sales and selling my Taltherian uplift ability. This is what I will use to acquire the resource to purchase the planets I require for my general build goals from other players.

Another thing I intend to change is I want to switch over to Taltherian Excavator to get increased artifact production rates. That is why I need the mineral production in the initial stages until my research production is high enough to cover my costs.

I think I covered the important parts ( I wrote a novel, at least. ) and was wondering if there are any questions, suggestions, or concerns with my general plan.

As always, any and all advice is appreciated.

Update : Ship stats have been updated in a comment. Read lower for current stats.

Update 2 : Ship stats have been updated in a comment. Read first post on second page for new stats.

Clarification post 1 : I do not intend to add 25 mining planets. I intend to swap out all of my current mining planets for just the 25 needed to get the mineral production I want.

Reply about decks and damage cap. Please read.

I realize how high my damage cap will be, and I realize how much hull I will need to compensate for it, and I am ok with that. Now please stop going on about that specific thing. I get it.

Really, I do.

First, I think your MP/hour is enough. (dunno after switching out of builder, tho)
2nd, do you plan to buy GP to abandon RP planets?
3rd, your attack is way too low (obviously :P). What build are you planning to get? Att, or turtle build?
4th, I see your scan is 10k+, wondered why you need those scan modules (currently) ? I wouldn't recommend keeping them installed/uninstalled after a scan run, instead just sell them right away after the scan run. You might want to keep one Continuum Analyzer just to scan for Hybrid Larva and Caelon.
5th, what modules you have on ship?

12K+ should be. I intend to drop a lot of the planets I do have for mining because they are definitely sub optimal. When I switch all my mining over to 500+ an hour, I'll be getting a slightly higher production value, with far less planets, freeing up more slots for artifact production.

asquall wrote:

That one I don't have much of a choice on. Need the Galaxy Points to drop the bad planets. Figure a good 80 - 100 of my current ones need to go.

asquall wrote:

I intend to get an attack to defense ratio of 1:2. I want attack:rank to be 30:1 and defense:rank to be 60:1.

I keep them on because I like having them. ( Yes, I am weird. Install ALL the modules! )

I will update the original post with that information.

I could do that. I shall give thought to it. :-)

I am looking at an increase in upkeep costs, once I upgrade my weapons, hull and defenses, of about 3.5B as a builder. As things stand, that 12.5K mineral production likely won't be able to keep up, and I will need to trade in some research to even out. Hopefully no more than an hour or two's supply.

I intend to pull out larger amounts over time. The smaller goal I am aiming for is simply to get my feet properly under me, so I won't be so bleh. :-)

Addressed this in response to point 2. :-)

Hmm... start pouring (yes) your rank points to TO.
91 TO?? meh...

What's your playstyle you want for the long/short term? NPC? PVP? I guess you'll spend HUGE energy on both, due to your low TO. If you want to mission a lot (until you run out of those :P ), then it's fine to have a low TO :) Nevertheless, I suggest you to start increasing your TO to get your attack somewhere between 8k-10k.

If you want to freeze rank, make sure you make use of your energy to legion mission which don't generate XP :)

I enjoy missions and NPCing.

I fully intend to get my Tactical Officer count up. I want 18,000 attack by the time I start leveling after I freeze at 600, and 36,000 defense. Hull is a bit more up in the air. I want 50 shots, at max damage, to be my minimum kill area. That's a bit more difficult to figure out though. I'm going to work towards the 4400 decks for the medal, which means damage cap of 8800, so....
*Does some math*
440,000 hull. Yes, you read that correctly.

50 hits at damage cap = 110,000 hull

*Shrugs*

Not sure whether to say damn or not.

On the one hand, getting something that simple wrong doesn't bode well for the rest of my plan.

On the other, that is a *lot* less hull needed, which makes me happy.

less decks is typically better.
20k defense on a 2000 deck ship is the same as 45k defense on a 4500 deck ship.
get the medal later on when you're rank 2k+ or have a large hull
Edit: stop adding decks(you're pretty big as it is)

Great advice I think. This would also help you if you choose to NPC for terraformers instead of simply freezing, by ensuring your damage cap doesn't soar too high.

I run a 4400 build and I went up from a 3500 decks build at about rank 1k in order to increase my scan and cloak and become more versatile as i don't really like mod switching 4400 build allows me to do everything a massive ship build would do.

The only time i mod switch is for scan runs.

In terms of your stats i'm honestly not sure how they're so bad for a player who is 10 months away from his 3 year reward what have you actually been doing lol?

Everything else falls in line if you have the ap/h so that should really be your one and only goal.

Stop taking anything that you can't get 200 per hour out of. Next instead of abandoning Research planets you improve them. Lower defense so the young ones can gobble them up. Saves you money.

Also my Ship is fat.

6502 and I have been scraping Ship bots and if I need to add a weapon I drop my shield mod, that is uninstall it. Or rework my current set-up.

Post subject:  Re: My crappy ship, and my plans for turning it around.

You are obviously a mission guy, but as you can see you have crippled yourself from enjoying many of the other aspects of the game.(pvp, npc, bases, invasions) Hold off on the great planet purge, what are the size/richness of the planets you are ditching? I would not recommend dropping all of your research planets, and your mining should be suitable for your upkeep, so don't take 25 more mining planets. Also I don't think you should add 1000 decks just for a medal. From now on, every time you rank up, put those 5 rank points into T.O's, and put all, of your prisoner points into T.O's for awhile as well.

Additionally I think you should change what you have installed, if you want me to go more in depth about this I can or you can meet up with me in game. I noticed you said that you were going to switch your 5 heavy nulls to quasis, I think you should make those and your three existing quasis heavy thetas instead. Also install 5 perfect Syncopateds, and 8 of the best defensive modules you have researched. My reasoning is after you switch from builder (preferably to excavator) your upkeep will obviously go up, and 8 defensive modules would probably do you more good than a slight increase in attack for a big increase in defense. You should also put on 5 researched shield modules, since you will probably have room.
******To fit all of these changes, remove your scanners*******

Sorry for the big bulky text block :D
Here's some modules you should try to get as well: Velox thruster (x3) Aegis Capicator (x3) Anubix, Ai Assault Drone (x1)
Get the legion mission modules that upgrade and offer percent boosts

And above all gl in gl mate :)

EDIT: One more thing, what does your research tree look like?

Post subject:  Re: My crappy ship, and my plans for turning it around.

Take the risk and switch to excavator .... auction off ALL your unused artis for credits.

Protect and upgrade all your few project planets ........
The rest of your planets (Extremely Rich and below), remove all attack/defense and fully milk it with lifter buildings.

Switch the buildings to all artis ... (example: Toxic planet with Mining: Rich, Arti: Abundant - build arti building, ignore mining)
- Every little arti points counts .... eventually they'll stack and you'll have extra 1-2k arti production (10% more with excavator)

If someone invades your milking planet, let them take it ....... continue milking the artis.

Stock up enough Star Chart Purger and go for a scan blitz................. repeat above
