Can someone point me to an explanation of how PVP combat works. I will be damned if I can figure out the formulas.

Thanks in advance

Hello Sir. you are very LAZY... there is something called galaxy legion wikipedia that will explain everything for you.

The PVP damage cap formula is the LARGER of the following two possible formulas:
Decks / 2
(Rank + 19) / 2

Calls guy lazy. Doesn't send him to the formulas he actually needs. Pfft.

Damage per shot = tanh( attack*(random(0.6 to 1.666)) / (defense * 5) ) * damagecap

NPC Damage cap = 2.5 * rank.
He did give you the player damage cap though. So that's good.

The following is the page with all in game formula's the playerbase has managed to crack so far as well: http://galaxylegion.com/wiki/index.php/Equations

Thank you both. I already had all that information.

What I am really curious about is the reciprocal damage from attacking a ship. How is that calculated.

Out of honest curiosity what does "tanh" represent?

OK, this is why I am confused and asking. I went PVP today against someone who was about 100 levels below me. Our ships were the same size. I used a couple of probes and found his off and def was about the same as mine with maybe a 100 pts difference either way.

When I attack him, he does 3000 damage to me an I do 200 to him. Consistently.

What could cause that?

are you sure the ship was the same size ? my suspicion is that you have many more decks than your target does ...

Also, you sure you didnt hit a KVT or something? If your playing from the phone it delays the alert sometimes. On a bad day, even on desktops itll take 5-10 seconds for the KVT trigger to show

dammage cap :)

if you have 6000 decks, your cap is 3000 dammage pr shoot
and the ship you are hitting is proberly a SSB ship with only 400 decks = max 200 dammage pr hit

or

Your attack on ****** sets off a Krionus Virus Trap, surrounding your ship with its effects!
(-90% attac on your ship when you set it off)

Not sure at all, but do the Xecti, Trinity Core, and Auto Invasion defense bonuses show up on probing? If not, a ship could be the same deck size and same "defense" but effective defense could be much higher when they are attacked.

Post subject:  Re: Combat Explained

If you probe after you attack, the defense bonuses should be shown in the total defense.

Always attack once before using probes, otherwise you read values that could be from NPC or bases or whatever they last dealt with.
