Are football planets considered legal?
Is there any official ruling from Dan about them?

About 2 years ago, Dan said that there maybe changes to stop the use of football planets, but so far nothing.

While the use of footballs to get green badges is 'generally' considered bad form, it is not (so far) against the rules.

Some players/legions will deliberately take footballs out of play (fluxing) if discovered. While some will want in on the action as well.

This has been discussed many times. Footballs, like any other exploit in the game, have those who support them and those who think it's "cheating". The funny part is some of the ones who feel others are cheating by using footballs have no problem utilizing THEIR favorite cheats; whatever they may be.

Bottom line: They aren't against the TOS, use them if you're so inclined, don't use them if their use bothers you.

i actually endorse footballing alot, keeps more peoples invade timers pre-occupied when the worth while alerts come around. and gives you just that much longer to scan your planets if they happen upon one of yours and cant do anything about it

I used to look down upon it like it was cheating, now I look down upon it with some pity. Do you really have no better use for your credits and your invade timer that you need to use a football?

To me this is, perhaps, the biggest negative for footballers....

Guilty as charged with footballs. My bane ally would level up once a month. Dan seems to have something against scanning a ton of planets at a time.

Rebel planet we upped it with research so someone can make it a nice crystal if they want. Thosebuttcheeks was found an taken from me earlier this week. The other football that I was messing with.
