i havent read all the topics in this forum, but 1 thought that came to my mind was to actualy just research and not level up so that when you level you have way more research, or is this not possible because you also level up by just researching ?

You can have more planets as you level up. More planets = more research.

you don't level by researching. but also by not leveling your Max amount of research you can hold at any one time won't go up. And as SpoonyJank said, you can't get more planets to raise your research per hour higher. The main reason I see to slow your leveling is if you like to fight alot. So that you can get the best weapons and defense on your ship at any one time. But again this comes at a price - your ship is too small to fit anything you can make ;P
I advise a happy medium. Maybe level slower. Therefore your total over time research is higher than others your level, but your ship is also getting bigger (assuming you point rank points in decks) so that you can fit the goodies you can make.
