think of it this way, sillix let you install more modules yes, but soon you'll become dependant on staying a sillix, unless you can get a lot of ship bots and rescued prisoners saved up to not have to unequip a lot of modules if you decide to change races. I used to be a sillix and I changed and had to unequip 3 or 4 cannons for a while until I got my decks back up.

Sillix: Yes.
Explorer: No.

That 20% scanning will only make it harder to find planets once you change to something else.

It helps you get a good start though. My personal recommendation for young players is Vygoid excavator. It gives bonus to 2 important aspects of the game, research and artifacts.

I'm a sillixx explorer. It works out great. All the races/professions with production bonuses just advance you faster. Slower build is always better. The decks and extra scan never run out of usefulness.

I understand the Sillix deck win to some, but to me its a cloak and a half extra equivalent compared to a Vygoid 20% increase on research, how can getting ahead on research be a bad thing? (PS im running a 1000 deck ship, not a minor one and my research is up from 3360 to over nigh on 4000! 13k of extra research every day isnt a waste)

Eventually your modules are double the strength and need less installed to get the same power, you can actually save deck in the long run! More advanced research gives better planet output and better options to what you can install.

Profession wise is always about discression and theres no right answer, sometimes we need more arti's, sometimes a cheaper daily upkeep or more minerals, we're all different in this area.

I'll add another +1 for Vygoid Excavator. This is an engine-building game, and your planetary production is the engine. More research and arti's equals better tech and more ship-bots, prisoners, and star chart purgers. There's no downside to more production, ever.

Inergon Physicist. Can't go wrong with more energy. Got me a deadly reputation as well as level up with pretty decent research as well.

In the begin that's a GRATE combo. but later you will want to change it when you get enough
decks.

Getting planets is a pain the explorer will help you a lot.
As for the more decks lower ranks need them to keep up
There are a lot of grate mach ups out there but i do suggest this one.
As for strm avenger comment disregard it. you will get more now thats good. when you change for some thing different you will lose the bonus but thats to Stellar Cartography mission you will be able to purge planets and still fined 100's in your scan runs just mass purge planets from your ship data banks.
