Planetary structures are the best to get. Especially if you don't really have room for modules anyways. The time it takes you to research the buildings will give you time to bring your deck space up.

Antiprotons and DCN hull aren't hard to upkeep. 120mil a day or so, when maxed on both weapons and hulls. At 120, you generally can't fit 8 weapons, 5 hulls and some defence. I'd say upkeep would be around 80mil tops, which is easily affordable.

It will help so much in the long run if you have better mining planets.
