I'm curious how different legions handle their players balancing research between ship upgrades and base research. We don't want a legion of haves and have-nots, but with every base level we rise, the gap widens.

How do you get your lower level players to spend valuable points on an ever-increasing base research balance when a single daily base payout covers a whole upgrade tier? Do you have firm legion rules or do you leave it up to them?

Personally we dont, we encourage it but dont enforce it due to the fact they need better tech.

That's where we're at, but my fear is that if they don't catch now, either they never will, or the gap will get so far ahead that they'll never try. There's always something else to research.

Tell them to use base research if you do base research, into the base research.

The other thing is to ask them to send stuff (EM and CTP) to someone who can contribute.

if you do this, you better guarantee to your legion that you'll never under any circumstances switch to contribution based payouts.......... you'll totally screw them and piss them off....

which reminds me is Dan working on something so EM is not weighted so heavily as a % of contribution?

As a leader and a high ranker of the group, i do the majority of the research for the base modules, we also run a "day on day off" system, of payout (ie day1 equal, day2 %, day3 equal, day4 % and so on). We find this gives excellent balance to both parties. Cash injections of even a little a day or two per player really adds upto the ever evolving module costs

we do 1 of 2 things = dis for the most part and then 2 days a week % (as a reward to those that do contribute) or once a month 1 week of solid % ( thats about 140k rp for me as top contributor)

I don't have the 15 million RP for Dimensional Logistics, and I need that before I can start the Hyper Logistics that is needed to get to level 8. Instead of donating EM, CTP, or Energy, I try to buy modules with GP.

Two important facts, Threadbare.

You only need to finish the first tech to qualify for upgrading, so 5 mil instead of 15 mil.

There is no tier after the 5 mil one, so there is no rank 8 base yet. 7's the ceiling for now.

Dan has said Hyper Logistics is coming in a couple more weeks

That was a long time ago and they arent rumors. Dan said he was making Mission Dyson and Exotics Invincible, and giving anyone who has done the mission but doesnt have a the mission planet their planet back.

It means he did not even do research to contribute to level 7 Razor so he needs to do all 3 of that tier just to reach the research for level 8 bases......improve your ships first..... especially at lower ranks

Yeah, I misread bits of that at first, before I knew that level 8 bases were coming. Was assuming he meant 7.

I'm not a Leader in my legion (far too many real life responsibilities and I'm not always terribly diplomatic) but I've given this matter considerable thought. I am, at this point in time, one of the "haves" in my Legion - I've researched up through the next two levels worth of Base stuff, so I'm good to go.

But I wasn't when I first joined, about two months ago, after my other legion fell apart. I was eager to help and I kept pouring everything into researching base stuff to level up to AI Logistics so that I could contribute energy and exotic matter, but by the time I got that high, it was only a few days before all we still needed was Complex Tech Parts! How frustrating! And how is a low-ish level player (I believe I was around rank 45 at the time) supposed to get them?

Fortunately, my legion uses the equal distribution method.

I really don't like the percentage-based system one bit. The people with the highest contribution percentages are the same people who probably don't need the extra resources all that much. Somebody of a lower level might be able to contribute SOMETHING but not nearly as much as somebody 50 or 100 levels higher than them can.

On the other hand, a day's pay-out can make a HUGE difference for low level players, which is why being part of a legion is so advantageous. They can improve something - maybe multiple somethings - in one day, and then they can help the rest of the legion in turn.

In chat and in announcements, I think it's a good idea to foster the "pay it forward" idea. "I helped you with X today, because you're lower level and you needed it, so if somebody else needs help when you're a little bit further along, you should help them." (There's always SOMEBODY going "Holy Crap" when they realize how much Deep Extraction costs.)

The legion should, in theory, be a team that's trying to work together to make everyone stronger. It's no good having a handful of the elite at the top with everyone else struggling more than is neccessary to make their way.

You'll always get some jerk who tries to take advantage or constantly begs for more help and items, but that's what the "kick" button is for.
