So, what is the best level to upgrade your weapons? There was a thread on this ages ago - but it's rather out dated with base production being added.

Currently I'm at 124 staring at the RP cost for anti-protons wishing they weren't so much.

ASAP, put simply.

hehehe, i would have said that once even as a slow ranker i cant afford to upgrade my weapons at every chance i had light anti protons for ages, despite having researched heavy's.

I'm slow ranking and am 432.
Don't upgrade your weapons every time only after you reach 3/3 on the current weapon research. Then upgrade. Also be sure you check the daily upkeep and you'll have enough+ revenue each day. I got caught once where I needed 22hr of mineral production for my daily upkeep. That really was annoying for about a week until I was able to increase my mineral production.

Thunder, let me give you a comparison.
I'm rank 121. I've just got and installed 3 heavy sings.
I'm getting by well enough in PvP with around 1000 attack and 500 defence.
I'm saving space to run a 4th cannon, and I'm working on +8 buildings and scanners in the meantime.

I've had singularity launchers since around 90 and I currently run 5. I have 1387 attack and 597 defense with no dark ring thrusters. So upgrading to anti protons seems overdue...

i would work on that defense i run 1259 Attack, 1151 Defense. i works nice

I only ever moved weapons once I hit the final/mark3 version in that tier.

I will, the moment we have some dark rings alerted.

ouch, you went from sillix to konqul.... that would have hurt your modules and i gave up waiting for darkrings

i just went from aerlen explorer to sillix fixer after my scan blitz with x-minifolds

If I hadn't changed from Konqul spy to zolazin sab, I'd have around 1100 attack. Need another 24 space for another sing. launcher.

I ONLY run dark rings, nothing else. the rest is made up of special modules and helmsmen.
I also run 1 hull and no shields. I'm doing OK in PvP now too (getting the 4 Mk3s, 3 armouries and last DQF before it's too late and PvP becomes a nightmare).

Good choice... I never did get all 4 ring thrusters installed. By the time I got the 4th one, I was already getting Complex thrusters from Dark MegaComplexes

And then started getting Dark Phase Engines from Nexuses shortly thereafter...

Took a little while to get those since I didn't have much back-up....

wow... i got all my dark ring thrusters within a week of being able to see dark rings and its time to upgraid weapons when you can afford to (talking about upkeep not the cost to install) but never put on mark1 or 2's only put on 3's i made that mistake and am still suffering for it :/

Best gain is from the first level of a new weapon tier.

Until you get to Theata-Chron Cannons ASAP. Once you get there, I suggest you wait untill you hit heavy ThetaChron Cannons and not again until Heavy Quasi Chaotics. I actually upped into light theta-chron cannons, decided I'd wait for Heavy THeta Chron cannons, and then decided, no I'm going strait to heavy quasi Chaotics. the price tag (and therefore upkeep-drag) of those weapons is cost prohibative, so you shodul wait once you're up there.

I'm currently researching Heavy Thetacons. I am nearly done. As i am doing this, i am taking every mining planet i can get.
GET YOUR MINERAL PRODUCTION UP, THEN UPGRADE TO THE FINAL WEAPONS TIER!
That's my advice.
Right now, while researching, i have Heavy Nulls installed.
