I finally broke down and got 2 research data archives. I am thinking of putting them both on my worst planet, then removing all resource structures and bricking it with the best defense and population structures i can afford. Is this what "the pros" would do?

if you're in a large legion (high membercount), load up the planet with cloak... find a sparse, very massive gas, fill it with cloak (chron shifters and void barriers and inverse flux and more)

oh, and before you place the archives, make sure nobody else has it scanned... use a temporal flux orb if you need to clear them

I don't know whether or not this was a good idea or not so I also need Pro assistance with this one. Almost the same as what Vanderon asked.
I've placed a couple warehouses on a very tiny, very abundant barren planet I've had for a year. I plan to turn it ointo my mission exotic planet. Was this a smart move if no one active has scanned it? Should I just cloak the heck outta the planet?

mine are on a large gas cause it was my worst unscanned planet then i bricked it with defense

Mine are on a VM/ab I colonised when I was noob. It is stacked with defence and some infinite, non-standard pop structures.

If someone scans a planet with those on it, they will try to take it, just for those artifacts. The Wiki says to cloak the heck out of an unscanned VM gas so no one can find it. I lost one because I did not heed that advice.

1. get a very massive planet
2. put your valuable structures on
3. put a ton of defence on it, barrier nexuses help alot
4. use the arti that gives 30% def per day on it.
i dont like cloak cause def is easier, and theres a small chance for it to be scanned out of the other couple million planets. Also, only a small chance for a level 1000+ epic person to takt it.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to extract those first chance I get.

let's see....

go defense and many people would go after it if they see it

go cloak and the only people able to find it would've easily been able to take it anyway had you gone with defense

sounds like the cloak route wins.... and if you're in a large legion (50+ members) it should only take about 50-60% of the planet to cloak beyond current max scan... then you can go defense the rest of the way

11 inverse flux satellites, plus a 50 member legion gives me 17600 cloak. Which costs 8 billion, twice what it would take for 20k def and 1900 pop. So what's the highest possible scan someone could have?

i think right now with limited availability (mission item) buffs and explorer bonus, the absolute max scan is somewhere in 16K atm...

try it this way...

2 adumbrate stations
2 chron shifters
1 dark anti-beacon
1 dark pylon shifter
1 modified grid pylon
1 permafrost sub-network
1 silthion gas vesicle
2 spy uplink chassis
1 void barrier
1 zolazin void tower
1 ergosphere filter

that's 2005 cloak, 1100 def, 50 pop, 9 research, and 2 artifact all stuffed in 15 spaces (not counting the 20% from the ergosphere just yet)

add in another 3000 for passive cloak, and we're up to 5005 cloak (still at 15 spaces)

add in 3 inverse flux satellites (800 cloak each for 7 space each), for a total of 7405 cloak in 36 spaces

now let's apply the 20% cloak effect from the ergosphere to get 8886 cloak
and let's apply 100% legion bonus from 50 members to get 17772 cloak

not to mention you already have 9 research (on a gas planet so you could choose not to go sparse research if you want) and 1100 (pre-legion bonus) defense on it so far

put your 5x size 2 research data archives, and you will still be left with 23 spaces to do with as you please....
