Post subject:  how to protect my Colossal size planet
Hey guys,
I'm rank 227, and just got my hands on Colossal sized planet tonight.
Stats:
Research - 25x Mega Rich (288.6 units/hr)
Artifact - 11x Mega Rich (161 units/hr)
Mining - Extremely Rich (25 units/hr)
Defense - (13200 + 54% legion bonus) = 20328
Attack - (2450 + 54% legion bonus) = 3773

Obviously high ranking guys will want this planet if they come across it. My question is, how do I hold off the high ranking attackers. Is the defense that I have good enough? Let me know if you think I should change anything.

I've seen this said before, but there's no such thing as enough defense. If one of the top legions scans it and you don't have a flux on hand, it's probably going to be gone.

As for further speculation on how best to defend it, I'll leave that to people who know more about planet defense than I.

Looking at the resource stats and size, I'm guessing this is a natural Dyson. About the only way to secure it against a top legion would be to cloak it past what is currently max scan (~16k) which would be very difficult in a half size legion, especially if you don't have top end cloak structure. Cloak of around 12k would probably protect it against 90-95% of all players, but even that would be difficult in your position. Like Rigor said, if someone finds it, chances are a top legion will end up with it regardless of how much defense you put on it (whether they scan it themselves or a low rank player scans and sells it).

If you can, get a Xecti Pathway Detector. If you have that then that will help greatly with keeping it. Make sure to Flux Probe it often, probably at least once a week, and try to keep an Alarm Sentry on it at all times, if possible.

this is hoping the Xecti Pathway Detector's bugs have all finally been worked out this time

12k cloak will do it because even top players don't want to switch to explorer each time. Note: http://galaxylegion.com/wiki/index.php/Scan_Blitz . 20% is from a limited use item that goes for like 5 minutes, so it won't apply in most cases and it certainly is not sustainable, so 14k scan. Explorer is technically sustainable but people don't want to race switch twice just to scan, so usually that is another 20% gone. 11,700 scan. 12k you are good. Even in the 14k scan case that they pay for it, it is still around 90% failure rate with 12k cloak, which I consider the gold standard for now. It is achievable, but what I recommend is get some cloak tree techs, and dump them on that planet to get as much as possible, you want at least the 500 cloak buildings for space efficiency, and any % cloak boosting items (there are 2 mission ones that I know of, ergosphere +20% and the newer high rank one you won't get for a long time).

Save every fab plant drop for cloak and anything else that cloaks -- apply it to the planet towards 3500 passive cloak as well.

That reminds me, the Xecti Ensconcing Field has no limit, so I'd recommend getting up to 3100 cloak with Interspacial Fold Generators, use 2 Magnetosphere Chargers to max out the cloak, then use as many Xecti Ensconcing Fields as you're going to (I have 3 planets I want to use them on, so 5 each).

Forgot those... since its not scanned, 160 x 15 x legion bonus = about 5k more passive cloak effective. Yeah that should do it until you get tech up.

If you want "total" protection either rift it or sell it if you can't rift it.

The only way is to rift it, or probe it everyday and flux if discovered.
if you go this road, you'll have to get some cloacking to avoid people discovering it too often. Be sure some people will discover it! i'm not sure 14K cloacking is achievable without bricking the planet...and i am sure you want some juice out of it!

you also need some defense to give you long enough delay in case its discovered. 20K+ defense should give you 24-48hours. even the best legion can't gather all their sab too fast and cluster missile are limited.

remember to drop all the defense artifact you can, they cant be destroyed ....


edit: i dont recommand rifting it because thoose stat are achieveable with a normal planet........

lots of great input guys, and after listening to everyone, I think I'm just gonna let it sail as is. I don't have time to monitor the planet on a daily basis, and I don't wanna put so many def/attack/cloak structures on it, and have it where its giving me the production of a Massive planet, because then the purpose of the Colossal is lost.

My defense is 20328 right now, and I'm going to add on some defensive artifacts as well.
If it gets taken, so be it. Just get back on the quest to find another one.

When people sell planets like this, how much do they go for?

CTP cost for a planet such as yours can easily get into the thousands range.

5-7k. After all the best resource is research. I know I'd be willing to pay that.

That might be reasonable considering it doesn't have > 15x on AP, it's a decent dyson but not an awesome one. That offer is 60-80b, but I doubt anyone would go over 150b for an RP dyson that's not in teh 40x's
