It would appear that rarely, a critical hit occurs with a large amount of scan on. When this happens, it doubles the normal damage done, but also apparently ignores the damagecap of the target (in that you can 1 shot an npc that normally, you can't at a certain rank). I've never believed in crits, because attack factor varies from 0.6-1.666 approximately, but this randomization still always falls within the damage cap. I want to get more observations to confirm the mechanism; it seems that 2-3k scan can result in 1:100 to 1:150 crit. shot ratio. Right now, I am considering any shot that deals above damagecap to be a crit, please post if you have seen this happen. |

Wow. You just blew my mind... EDIT: I wonder if NPCs have scan and cloak for the purpose of critical hit calculations, then. |

I wonder if there's an upper limit to the critical hit chance/scan calculation. |

Yeah I wonder too, what your "opposed scan" is, how higher scan affects the chance, and if it's just your scan or your scan vs. some attribute of the enemy. I am also trying to figure what the threshold is for seeing crits regularly, I typically npc with 50 scan just to see planet drops, but not to see bosses, and I've not seen this effect. |

Your highest attack roll is about 2.8x your lowest, so there is a wide range of "normal" attack values. |

I'm gonna keep going, but I've gone through about 10K energy with 3K+ scan without one of these critical hits. Are you sure about this? |
