Post subject:  Ship set up - advice please!

Hi all... looking for some advice to help make my ship a little less easy to disable, while still being able to go PVPing and NPC hunting. Any advice is welcome, including whether to research more stuff to put better things on the ship. I know my tacticals are low for raiding, and although I want to eventually get back to raiding (8 more yellows for Protean Armory 2), right now I want to stop myself being disabled so easily, while still being able to easily dump a crap load of energy in to missions and NPCs when I level up.

Here's my setup at the moment...

Level: 116 (almost 117!)
Space: 460 / 460
Attack: 820
Defense: 457
Scan: 81
Cloak: 302
Cargo: 195 / 280
Hull: 1464
Shield: 334

164 Engineers
134 Tactical
88 Helmsmen
95 Scientists

Weapons:
Combat Analyzer
Crimson Auto-laser
Dominion Mk2
2 x Dominion Mk1
2 x Heavy Quantum Devastator
Prototype Mech
Psionic Amplifier
Vortul Blast Phaser

[u]Defenses/Shields[\u]
Auto-Evasion Node
2 x Dark Ring Thruster
Harmonic Resonator
Q-Phase Battery Array
Spatial Thrusters
TO Harmonic Pulser
2 x TO Shield Generator
Thrust Stabilizer

[u]Hull[\u]
2 x Overcharged Q-Phased Plating
Protean Armory
2 x Vortul Plating

[u]Energy[\u]
Omicron Injector
2 x Drannik Power Core
2 x Surge Plexus
2 x FATHER
4 x Transconduit

[u]Devices[\u]
AI Supercomputer
2 x Decryption Quad Frame (BOTH IN HOLD)
Gamma Channeler
Sha'din Supercomputer
Stealth Field Emitter Mk2
2 x Stryll Hunt Sensor (ONE IN HOLD)
2 x Zolazin Jammer (BOTH IN HOLD)

In research I've completed:
- Quantum Disassembly
- 2 stages of Dark Energy Induction
- Phase Fields
- Quantum Jamming
- Q-Phased Plating
- Inertial Cancelation
- Quantum Resonance Sensors

Thanks for any advice!!

Uninstall the TO Harmonic Pulser, both TO shield generators, and stock up on hull. Research better weapons, you should using singularity launchers at your rank. Get rid of the stealth field emitter if you need to make space for all 5 hull modules.

Right, first things first, what the hell have you been spending your rank points on? You have a crap amount of cargo, engineers, helmsmen, tactical officers and scientists. You have a bad amount of defence and a low attack for your level. You have a extremely low amount of energy taken up by all of the chargers you have, how did you rank up with that kind of energy? You have more attack than me (because of my financial trouble at the minute) Your hull is crap (get this HIGHER VERY MUCH SO), your decks, I mean not even 500 yet? YOU ARE RANK 116 YOU NEED MORE DECKS THAN JUST 400 YOU RETARD

Helpful advice there. Thanks. This is something I can use.

Um, thanks for the "friendly" advice? I'm impressed that people can just immediately jump down someone's throat and treat them like crap for asking for simple advice. If you must know, I used to have 3 dark energy reactors on, and was able to (almost) auto-rank on missions. I know everything else is bad, hence why I was asking for advice. If you're not going to be helpful, don't help. There were so many more pleasant ways you could have helped out.

Glad I could help. And just ignore Nuron, he doesn't play well with others.

Heh... I noticed.

Ship now has 4 x Overcharged Q Phase on there for a hull of 2274, and shields are down at 184. I guess it's just a case of add the decks, dump another hull on, and keep pumping up the guns? When should I think about increasing tactical officers and defence?

I'd recommend using your rank points and ship bots for decks, and splitting your rescued prisoners between TO's and engineers, 1:2 for now. At rank 168, I've stopped adding decks entirely (Sitting at about 1.3k), and am putting most of my points from both rank and rescued prisoners into engineers, with a few in TO's as well. All shield is from XCharge Cells, all defense from Helmsmen.

The best advice I could give you is this: Spend all of your rank points in Deck from here on out. Focus your Research Points on increasing your weapon level and hull levels immediately. If you find this is dragging out for far too long then you need to either join a Legion that is heavily Research Point based OR dump all your Research Points into getting more scanners so that you can do some decent scan runs and get good Research Planets.

If you have some money to burn you could always contact people on here looking for stuff like Tactical Base Extenders and work out a trade to purchase some planets from them in exchange for the extenders.

Just an option to consider.

Also like this advice, thanks! I'm on 1234 research/hr, and have now stopped dumping it in to energy, and am focussing on weapons and hull.

Thanks (mostly) everyone for their advice. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks!

at rank 109, i had 5329 hull with 392 decks. i would NOT add any more decks if being disabled too easily is your concern. hull and helmsmen for def.

the other possibility is to go fixer ...

Definitely this, but again, it also depends on your research. I hope you're in a legion with at least a level 4 base...?

If you can reach mark III energy nullifiers and deep core neutronium and get them installed fairly quickly (x4 and x5, respectively), it's unlikely you'll be disabled frequently by those in your range; however, the downside is that those modules require a large number of decks and with your current deck count, you wouldn't have much room to install much else

Fixer is also a good choice if you have a glaviz device (or possibly sphere of a new era)
