After 2 hrs of re-arranging scan mods and scanning and 3050 energy spent (though I'm far from finished) here are my initial results.

I started with 181 planets in my database. I couldn't get down to just my own planets because a couple had vortex deflectors, 1 was exotica , and one had an xrp warp inhibitor (please +1 my thread here http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31521 )

Scan . . Planets
1302 . . 182
1320 . . 183
1330 . . 184
1340 . . 185
1355 . . 186
1360 . . 187
1380 . . 188
1390 . . 189
1400 . . 190
1410 . . 191
1420 . . 192
1430 . . 193
1440 . . 194
1455 . . 195
1465 . . 196
1480 . . 197
1490 . . 198
1500 . . 199
1510 . . 200
1520 . . 201
1535 . . 202
1540 . . 203
1559 . . 204
1560 . . 205
1580 . . 206
1590 . . 207
1600 . . 208
1615 . . 209
1620 . . 210
1640 . . 211

1660 . . 213
1670 . . 214
1680 . . 215
1698 . . 216
1700 . . 217

Increasing by 5 in between scans, I only encountered 2x where I could scan more than 1 planet (in which cases I purged 1 and lowered scan a bit to find the exact number - those cases were 1559 and 1698 and I started at 1302).

Again, I was increasing by 5 in between scans, and again I encountered 2x where I could scan more than 1 planet (in which cases I purged 1 and lowered scan a bit to find the exact number - those cases were scan 2119 and scan 2418).

Another oddity was my last scan for the day (cause I'm tired of looking at these horrible planets!) at scan 2520. At scan 2519 the button was grayed out, but scan 2520 allowed me to scan planets 283 and 284, so the required scan for 283 must be something like 2519.xxx but I haven't been using any scan buffs (to keep it easy to figure my scan mods, etc.) so can't be sure on that one.

I'll be doing more tomorrow if anyone can start trying to figure out the equation, that'd be nice :)

Hope this helps you find your equation.

I can do a graph between scan values of, say, 0 and 3000 to give you a better detailed look at that curved region.

Here's another run for today. I'm thinking that I may jump up to around 5k and continue scanning from there as I believe we have enough data for this segment or the scale, but that won't be till tomorrow, so if anyone has a compelling reason not to do that, let me know. (Only 5,420 energy used this time and again, please +1 my thread here http://galaxylegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31521 )

2680 . . 296
2699 . . 297
2700 . . 298
2720 . . 299
2735 . . 300
2740 . . 301
2760 . . 302
2775 . . 303
2780 . . 304
2800 . . 305
2810 . . 306
2820 . . 307
2840 . . 308
2850 . . 309
2860 . . 310
2880 . . 311
2885 . . 312
2900 . . 313
2920 . . 314
2925 . . 315
2940 . . 316
2959 . .
2960 . . 317, 318

3079 . . 326
3080 . . 327
3100 . . 328
3119 . . 329
3120 . . 330

As before, I was increasing by 5 in between scans, and like before I encountered 5x where I could scan more than 1 planet (in which cases I purged 1 and lowered scan a bit to find the exact number - those cases were scan 2699, 2999, 3039, 3079, and scan 3119). This is only important in that there won't be deviation in these scan numbers, whereas (for example) planet 328 may have been found with scan 3096, 3097, 3098, 3099, or 3100.

like my last post, I found that similar % anomaly at scan 2959. The button was gray but 2960 allowed me to scan planets 317 and 318. So (like 283) the required scan for 317 must be something like 2959.xxx but I haven't been using any scan buffs (to keep it easy to figure my scan mods, etc.) so can't be sure on that one.

Also, thanks for the scatterplot.

In response to the wiki; there are a few numbers in the first chunk of the list (Idk if there are later on) where two scan numbers are provided for the same number of planets. (I think 105 repeats with two scan values with differ by less than 10). I think that the ultimate goal should be 1 box for every 'Max no. of planets' (I.E. 1..n, n being the max number of planets possible to scan) and the lowest scan value needed to scan that many planets.

I.E.

Min Scan | Max Planets

1 | 1
5 | 2
10 | 3

And so on.... (These are probably incorrect values, for the record; I just pulled arbitrary numbers out of the air).

nope, the ultimate goal is to eliminate the table altogether once we come up with the equation that describes the curve. [i'm assuming that was ODragon's intention when he started the table]. the more data points for that right now, the better.

the other thing to try after that is to see if we can get a parallel curve for the 'good' scan line and that will cover the majority of queries about planetary scanning.

[will update the wiki with the latest points tonight - was too tuckered last nite]

Dan might've configured the scanning to give you two different equations for scan values though (one equation between, say, 0 and 2000 and then another for everything else). The graph doesn't look like a consistent curve; it might even be discontinuous.

So I did my run a bit differently today. After doing a bit from where I left off I jumped a bit and did about 5-10 scans by 5s then jumped about 300-500 scan and did another set of 5-10 scans so we could get a bit more information as the curve gets higher. I also found a lower scan requirement for 473 planets than the 5200 scan posted elsewhere (I got 473 planets at 5119 scan). Also 11,265 energy used through this one (good thing I've got some spare cubes and tri's :P )

Actually, aside from the very low (>~2000) and those couple burps at ~11k, it looks like a direct linear relationship... But then I haven't had my coffee yet...

The <~2000 was my point... There's a curve between 0 and 2000 and a linear relationship from there-on. This possibly represents two different equations being used (Which would be backed up by a discontinuity).

We're missing loads of values for scans 1 > ~500

We really need these, I think; more important than gettings loads of high scan values.
