Post subject:  To expand or not to expand?

Alright, so over the past few days, after doing some math, I am having a hard deciding whether or not to add more decks to my ship to maximize my attack & defense.

By my calculations, I should be able to get my attack up about 1800 after konqul bonus, to a little over 11,500 and should be able to get my defense up 2100, if I add several hundred decks (Yes, I do have the ship bots for this)

Now, should I trade defense efficiency for the boost in attack and defense?

On one hand, as I said, I already lose my medium-ish damage cap, probably increasing it by at most 400.

On the other hand, i gain almost 2k more attack, which is quite a bit of attack considering I'd be gaining almost 20% attack, which increases the damage I do to bases, the damage I do to NPCs (Even though I already two shot chargers, and only miss two shotting runners about 10% of the time), and increases my chances of taking more heavily defended planets.

I'm thinking it might be worth it, if I don't go all out, as in increase my damage cap beyond the point of reaching the rank that would balance it out any time soon, but would this increase really be worth it?

It's worth it to blow stuff up faster, if you don't mind getting disabled a bit more.

i would say yes. as long as you have a decent ship the only real need for a low cap is online defence/exotica.
thats a good bit more attack for taking planets and base hitting.

Alright, I'd just like to hear a little more input on it, I have the income to support the increase, no doubt about that, (except maybe Qausis, I don't know if I could afford those)

quasis arent worth their cost unless you have more money than you can spend

And that's another reason I don't put those, or the highest tier of energy or hull on, the increase just isn't worth it.

It doesnt hurt to add in a few hundred worth of decks. The damage cap wouldn't really change that much. I would say yes to add in a few more decks.

Even though you are the enemy crow- my advice would go like this

you add a small % to your damage cap. you have enough defence that players don't hit it anyway (i know- trust me)but it does proportionately affect the level of damage they do do- but are you adding more defence as a proportion of the defence you have now? in which case you are actually gaining.

In terms of top line modules i would say hull is well worth the extra credit- gives you more time to react when a big ship hits you online- a few seconds can be crucial the cost in maintenance and decks (20 deck and much less than a bill a day extra maintenance) is minimal. I don't have quasis either (two vanity ones i suppose- other 6 are thetas still) because the attack gain is just not worth the cost- i could afford it but it would crimp my style. I did get the top line reactors- because i like the ability to play when i want to- and a big energy bank is part of that. my maintenance now 12.9 bill though so i won't say they are not too expensive- they are i just deal with it

Silver: if your percentage Def increase > percentage Decks increase, go for it.

I'd be reluctant to add decks for Attack at your rank -- have a chat with Bob The Unclean and do whatever the hell he tells you to do

Well, the point in adding 20% more attack is that I'd be more successful with better defended planets, which would help increase my AP production (except with those damn 90% fails), which could really help me in the long run, however, I might save this for when I eventually go talth, so I have less of a shock from losing 20% attack.

So, because my defense will increase by about 1/5 of it's current number, I can safely add about 1/5 of my total decks (So, 500 decks or less) and my defense will be either more effective or the same?

Also, I was thinking of going with trans entropy drive mk1's, is the extra 400 defense (total) really worth the doubling of the upkeep for the module?

Anything above +8 att/def:deck is a good investment of decks imo. Quasis are not worth the upkeep...ever.
