Had an interesting time today. It led to a few questions.
My planet got taken, and two people were defending it against me. They pumped all the usual artifacts, including artifact immunity.
I decided i wanted it back, and moved heaven and hell (well, three thousand energy and 10ish shield repairers) to take it down the hard way.. three points of damage at a time.
I killed the first defender, eating his traps. (forcing an hour wait while Halcyon wore off) I then went to kill the second, only to find he was already disabled, and STILL guarding the planet!
Sent a bug message off to Dan, who incredibly quickly (15 mins turn around) fixed the problem. However, in the meantime the first defender was back.
A day of random attacks started, In an attempt to stop him defending, i used a omicron net on him. He was still defending the planet against me under its affects.
Eventually he had been attacked enough, and the day ended in him attacking me. He hit my Halcyon trap, and got peaced out.
However, he still was able to defend the planet against me! Needless to say, this prevented me from taking the planet back.
Eventually it wore off, and i was able to reclaim my planet, some 5k energy, 18 traps and 40k damage later.
Is this normal?

I try to avoid situations like this, but it can happen. Although if they have an Omicron Net on you should still be able to attack them if they're guarding a planet.

Well first off, if they're defending a planet, this should over ride any and all truce effects they may have on them. You should have sent out a legion alert and had some legion members assist you.
Howeve, just for your notification, first, I believe if once your wear down the planet pop to 10 or less so you can target the ships individually, you can then use the unstable worm hole emmitter on them directly instead of having to dissable them. Second, if your only doing 3 damage per attack to the planet, that's some serious serious defense that planet has. In this case it might have just been the ships, but if they have a ton of defense on the planet, your odds of passing an invasion role can be pretty slim. I'd wait for them to relax a bit, the guards to wander off and the opponent to start replacing defensive structures with artifact structures and then move in to take it.

Unstable Wormhole Immiters don't work on artifact-immune planets. If you attack the defenders in a alert, truce effects prevent the attack, but if you attack them from the planet window (as the defenders of a planet) you are allowed to attack them and they cannot fight back (with their truce on).

But once you get them to that point you can't use the unstable wormhole emmitters on them directly by using the target button?

No, it targets planets, not people.
