I could probably provide useful data for this, but I haven't kept a ship log that detailed. I would be glad to post my stuff if you're interested. I'm at 93, and have been doing nothing but PvP since the beginning. Would be glad to toss my details up if they could be useful. Let me know.

well, kara thrace appears to be awol, so i may need to find a replacement for her.

here are the newest criteria for inclusion (besides regularly updating your ship log topic):

- starting date (from anniversary or reset dates) 24th of june 2012
- rank 588
- decks 608
- hull 26235
- shield 14132
- date of posting 6th of may 2014
- attack 14235
- defense 8469
- tactical officers 12607

- pvp kills 2757
- npc kills 23867

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31929&start=0
the more missing info, the less useful and less likely for inclusion.

;)

Philus and Peticks have replaced Kara Thrace and Crazor. Crazor's data will be missed as his reset ship was a speed.ranking, high arti production build, but he hasn't updated his ship log in many months. we also will not be getting any further info from The Reaper, but like icky ... there is sufficient data already provide so others can use their builds for reference.

Image

the damage cap rating arises out of Annabell's SSB query topic from a few weeks back. the value of the y-axis in the top left quadrant is SSB decks / actual decks, the inverse of the y-axis in the top right quadrant. Philus is bucking the general trend of most ships getting to a desired deck size and then not adding any more decks, thereby boosting their damage cap rating over time. A1th0m1s is poised to join the 100.hits club.

Image

you can see how my pvp kills started to climb after rank 600 when the juiciest npc elites for ctp farming disappeared from my battle tab. i aim to stop my pvp rampage in the coming month, so that i will be parked just short of the top10 kills leaderboard. we can see that A1th0m1s has been focusing on building up toughness while Elerian is maintaining his terrifying attack power / rank of 65.

Image

the ships that focus on PvP are pretty easy to spot on the PvP kills vs NPC kills chart in the top right. Fasious is doing well to maintain his 2:1 t.o. to engineer ratio, while Darth Pita has matched my 1:1 ratio.

Image

Elerian is the only pilot who has been patient enough to build up a sweet crew / rank ratio at a lower rank level. Joseph4 is the standout for early auto.ranking capability from engineers alone.

Image

The Reaper had a solid lead on the %artifact chart, but Peticks is making a strong challenge there, albeit at the expense of pitiful mining productions. i look forward to scanning some of The Reaper's planets in future days ;)

apparently in my semi hiatus stint i have missed alot, reaper quit or was banned? and sorry have not updated my log in quite some time, most likely will not update again till rank 800 but current attack / rank is at 69.98 dropped a bit due to some NPCing for much needed build extractors, legion missions, and and some base donations.

At the risk of skewing the data a bit i am going to add my stats.

Feel free to exclude my data though as i went a bit hardcore after my reset. The one thing that makes my ship distinctly different from all others (I assume i am the only one) is that i own nothing other than artifact planets (and vault worlds to store the artifacts).

- starting date (from anniversary or reset dates) 20 December 2012
- rank 876
- decks 895
- hull 128430
- shield 78785
- date of posting 28th of june 2014
- attack 67354
- defense 38099
- tactical officers 62907
- engineers 17075
- helmsmen 35760
- scientists 50973
- mining production 21287
- artifact production 137421
- research production 78086
- pvp kills 1078
- npc kills 49372
- planets occupied 216

dropped from the showdown was Rusty / TimeManipulator who has not logged into the forum since March and last updated his ship log at the beginning of November last year.

in his place, i made a (hopefully) one-time exception to my open forum sourcing policy in order to include data from Taylor Swift (SuperStar), a relatively fast-ranking, heavy npc.ing build. points in his favour were that he maintained everything in a google doc that he was willing to let me access AND the fact that he had kept his log with an entry every week since April 2012.

Image

so, like a said, a relatively fast-ranking, relatively high-deck build, matching icky for those categories. and despite all those decks, still doing relatively well in the minimum hits to disable category.

Image

and who said there was a problem with high-level PvP ? Taylor Swift has managed to maintain a 5 kills per rank average through the last 200 ranks up to rank 1740. guess someone knows how to play the game.

giving credence to his contention that AP/hr is the only key stat worth worrying about, you can see his power and toughness both looming over most of the other ships. exceptions would be Golgotha's toughness which comes from the lower deck count damage cap, while elerian matches him on toughness ... but at a much lower rank. the question with elerian is whether he can maintain that kind of power through the next 1000 ranks ... which we may have to wait until the year 2050 to find out ;)

Image

a killing beast indeed ... you can see Taylor Swift's big PvP surge at rank 1200.

Image

Image

tis very clear whenever Taylor Swift switches out of excavator, eh ? but look at that arti / planet stat !

anyway, i think that fleshes out the ship log showdown quite nicely and gives players quite a few different standards to measure themselves up against.

id like to say thank you for the periodic updates, its nice to see how things progress in a more graphical format, i find mysel flooking back here from time to time even if theres no new update, just to cover-to-cover the thread so to speak to see where everyone is / has come from in that point in time.

I agree with you. It's nice to see the growth of people laid out in graph form. Especially since some of the graphs also allow you to compare without rank involved either, nice to see where you stand growth wise compared to other ships you want to be like in the future :)

Thank you for all your work senatorhung!

to elerian and moonlitwalk (and all the other ship log providers) ... thanks for posting your ship logs ... without that data, there would be no analysis ;)

if you ever have any thoughts about comparing something that isn't reflected on the existing charts, feel free to make the suggestion !

SuperStar wrote:
The biggest takeaway is that most ships do not aggressively grow their AP. While I cannot really speak for ships outside my rank range other than the ships you have included in the Showdown, most ships that I see on the BT have a lot lower AP than I had at their rank. Therefore, most are pretty easy kills for me, with the exception of the few SSBs I encounter.

While I am not a proponent of NPCing as the sole method of increasing AP, I think some form of AP growth is necessary to keep up the arms race. I still tell ships in the 500-1000 range to get to Talth ASAP, so they can start uplifting their own planets slowly. They might not want to NPC much, which is fine. But Talthing planets is a must in lieu of hunting Troop Carriers.

hmm ... i am not sold on the Talth side of things. i had originally planned to go down that route earlier, but the more i thought about it, the more i realized that i was already focusing on taking arti-oriented planets already. plus the Talth chain imposes a heavy xp (and ranking) burden ... some of my favourite bt targets are low-ranked Talths who sped thru that chain before toughening up their ship. hence my detour to Kronyn and Mylarai to set up my project planets to eventually transform them into C 17x/22x/17x. the only advantage to going Talth early that i can see is to build up some planets to sell for ctp to buy one of the few natural dysons that pop up occasionally.

i am doing comparatively well at my rank compared to where you were at my rank, (as are many of the showdown pilots - see lower left of the 5th 'artifact' chart) but you did it in a MUCH shorter time frame (as shown on the upper left days played on the artifact chart). i think the bigger advantage comes from running with higher scan. when you were at rank 804, you had a base scan of 5061 with only 6534 scans performed. my current rank 807 stats are 1786 base scan with 22213 scans performed. you didn't pass that scans performed figure until rank 1621, when you already had over 150k AP/hr.

obviously we both buff up for scan runs, but you scanned your dyson at rank 1028 with a base scan of 7203, and within a month you were scanning at over 10k scan, with not much change in your scan rate. your 2d big jump at rank 1505 had you scan around 770 planets and you took 2 of them ... for a jump of over 13k in AP/hr. so i think finding (and TAKING) nice arti planets (either ones scanned yourself or shared via legion alerts) played a big part in your rise to your current lofty position on the artifact per planet chart.

i think the final takeaway is that scanning until grey with lower than 10k scan is not very effective. my current mylarai explorer is helping a bit on the scanning part, but the taking part is where i will still struggle as my base attack as a SSB can not compete with the base attack that comes from a LSB build. but with no challenge, there is no fun ;)

I think a player's goals should really determine their playstyle, not the other way around. My primary focus in GL is climbing the medals board, which (to me) shows the most well-rounded ships in the game. But in acquiring all those medals, I found myself PVPing a ton, which (at the time) really changed my playstyle. And since the PVP medals are very tough to achieve, once I got the top medals, I just kept on PVPing, as it was part of my normal gameplay.

I do not consider myself a PVPer primarily, as I do a fair bit of NPCing also. But in comparison to many of my EotS brethren, I'm my NPC figures pale to theirs.

The one thing that I didn't optimize early on was scanning. I was more focused on improving the planets I had versus finding more planets to invade. There were times where I wouldn't scan for more than a month! But as my ship attack improved, I started scanning more, since I could invade more and better planets. While I don't have any regrets about it, my ship could be even better now if I scanned more back then!

its not as large as you think, my guns are the next thing on my scrap for **ooh shiny** list lowering my overall attack by about 4k ish ( did the math before, too lazy to do it again ) with a high enough APH, the researched mods eventually just become more expensive than they need to be

in fact the only reserched anything im likely to leave on my ship are scan/cloak/hull - and the hull mods are on the chopping block after guns i just dont see anything that would take theri place ( deck for deck wise ).
