Post subject:  6 Months in a Leaky Boat... Day 182, Rank 245
With the high numbers of new players (like myself) doing the slow rank, low rank SSB thing, I wanted to post my progress after 6 months doing pretty much the opposite ;)

The aim is MSB, and I love being able to contribute meaningfully towards my legion in every way, from legion missions, base contributions, base locks and takedowns and generally helping out around the place while having lots of fun.

Added decks to 1100 with rank points, now TOs and engineers only, use energy whenever I have it and wherever it's needed and rank up as often as it comes.

Below is pretty much the general purpose build I run around with unless ranking up.

Research Production: 6583 (not taking anything that isn't absolutely magnificent)
Artifact Production: 6819 (ALWAYS need more)
Mining Production: 4582 (Toxics only or improved planets just too good to resist)

after 6 months your rank 240 and your not doing the SSB slow rank?


numbers are ok for your rank but after 6 months I'd expect better.

Thanks Levrosh, defense is my goal now, I just need the bots and parts vaults to make it happen :)
To be honest, I've just reset my third expired KVT in a row, so the gradual addition of defense hasn't hurt too much so far, but the more the better as soon as I can.

57 of my Player Deaths so far were before I was Rank 45, so since I then I'm doing relatively okay - I'm strangely happy to show my mistakes as I learn the game.

I think I could have been clearer in my post: I meant newer players like me, not that I was slow ranking or going SSB.
Ranking wise I'm just going completely natural - not slow, not fast ...just whatever happens.

My numbers are definitely nothing special at all - I'm working on them again after 100+ ranks of base battling and NPC chasing - so far spent 500+ reds on base locks so need to collect some more :)
Really only posted to show you don't necessarily have to slow rank to have an ok ship, ok stats and a lot of fun.

Looks good to me! The comment about defense is true, but that's something you are aware of and will rectify in time, so no biggie...

Definitely not a "leaky boat" at all. Are you going to post your production numbers, too?

Aaargh bum... forgot to post the numbers :oops:

Not sure on your playstyle but a 10.1 E ratio is always good to shoot for.

For me personally i'd rather sacrifice some strength for the ability to hit for longer.

Sound advice from Fireblade. You should always have enough energy that if you want to do something, you can - even if you don't use all of that energy. Additionally, more energy will allow you to PvP for longer... though the next few base scans are on me. ;)

Thanks Fireblade and FireStrmDragon, great points about the need for energy.
I'm working on a rough 2:3 ratio of TO's to Engineers now to build my energy, although more and more I just throw 5 rank points at it.
Current max is just over 1800 when I throw on all reactors and the 10:1 ratio is definitely a target.

few comments

First , KUDOS! Awesome success. I know you, so I know you aren't bragging, but have to say you would be in my vote for top 3 toughest all around ships in the game. Which is probably the only remotely viable "win" discernable in a never ending (till Dan pulls the plug) bonanza of continued growth.

Two- i love the comments on energy early on versus your current state. I have almost twice your e but half everything else. Funny to read old comments and see how they age fast-forwarded.

Three- what's the next goal/level? From where you're at npc'ing can be sloggy, and your bt pool is so reduced.

Four- how bout a top five tips for seasoned players? Doubt so many new players, but 10 year vet that I am, still learning.

Yeah the old comments are kinda funny from the rear-view mirror :)

My goal is just to keep on keeping on and see just how silly it can get.
My only advice for anyone is to enjoy the game and work on growth, don't expect it to just happen over time absent active effort.
Or don't and just enjoy other aspects of the game. It's all good and the game is meant to be fun.

Okay, there's absolutely nothing in my hints list that is exciting, wise or groundbreaking, but here it is anyway.

Deigo's totally unexciting hints

  • Have fun and try to be good to others.
  • NPC as much as you can, especially during seasonals
  • Scan as much as you can, especially during seasonals
  • If you're interested in increasing AP and Ship Strength, don't worry too much about where you are, worry about where you're going
  • If clicking is becoming a chore, remember you always have the choice to take a break. It's a game, not a job

Wow. With 753 planets that puts your average artifact production at 2183. I'm at less than half that. One set of stats I'd be interested in is total planet capacity for minerals/artifact/research. How many hours does it take to max you out?

Y'know this makes me wonder if there's much point in playing anymore. I figure you don't even have to buff up for 99% of gameplay. I don't see the point in investing more time, effort, and money when what it gets you matters very little.

Still, kudos to you for reaching such crazy numbers. I can't begin to think about how strong your will power must be.
