Post Tips for PvP
I know I'm not the most knowledgeable guy in this game, but I think I have the capacity to understand the basic concepts that some people tend to miss. I have tried many areas of the game, from mission-based, npc hunter, planet builder (although my productions still suck ass right now), trader and now hardcore pvper. I've tossed around a football and fluxed one to see what would happen. I've been diplomatic, to full on aggressive. I've gotten a taste of all sides of PvP, from dishing it out to having it dished at me, and here is what my opinion and advice for that area of the game is.

Here are some things that show up on the forum regarding PvP

    - I hit halcyons too much! Please remove them!

    - Increase the frequency of Null Fuses! I go through too many!

    - Halcyons suck! Let's boycott them!

    - I hate KVTs!

    - Multiraiding and multihacking is for the weak!

    - He's padding his stats!

    - You're now on my KoS!

    - Why did he zero me???

    - OMG! I killed Mento/Krauzen as my 1k kill!

    - Increase the TM limit!

    - 0'd players should not show up on my tab! But they do anyway!

And to all but the last I say STFU. I shall explain why individually...

Halcyons:

First thing's first, halcyons are part of the game. Get over it. They aren't being removed. If you're complaining about them now, you should've seen them BEFORE they were changed. The veteran GL people know what I'm talking about.

Halcyons are in the game for several reasons. First, they give people who do not PvP a way to escape the carnage. Not everyone has your mindset on the game and arguing about it won't change that. You need to understand that Galaxy Legion is not just a war game, it is also a storybased, roleplaying and economic game. Missions, planets and trading are also large aspects of the game and there are people who enjoy that more than PvP. When you try to force a gametype on someone, you are also causing a further dislike for that, especially when forcing that gametype includes downgrading their game experience.

Second, and again, this is my opinion, it is an opportunity for PvPers to formulate a strategy to their attacks. If you go out shooting at everything on your tab, of course you're going to hit a halcyon or two. Or more realistically, you're going to hit about ten or twenty. How do you avoid this? Well, that brings me to my next topic.

How To Avoid Halcyons:

There is a really, really, really easy way to avoid halcyons... well, several.

1) Stryll Trap Probes: These handy little artifacts let you view how many traps the current target has on their ship.
2) Actions Counter: You can only use a Halcyon after 24 hours of passivity. When you hit that 24 hour mark, your actions counter will be at 3/5/5.
3) Comms: Sometimes you can see what a ship's likely gonna have on by checking their comm. Some nice person might have left a warning for you.
4) Legion: Sometime the legion they are in is a very good indicator on what their playstyle is.
5) Bump: Yes, it costs energy. But what doesn't in this game? (Collecting resources doesn't count, genius)

Wow, 5 whole ways to avoid a halcyon. Who woulda thought? How can you use them effectively? Here's how.

First, don't refresh your tab every time you kill a ship. Wait until you go through all 10 ships. To do this, don't click the X box (shoutout to the 360), instead you should click outside the ship tab. You'll be able to target a new ship without your BT refreshing. Sometimes this glitches and you can't click open a new ship tab. In that case you'll have to refresh your BT.
When you target a ship, the first thing you should always check is their actions count. If you see 3/5/5, chances are they have a halcyon on them. Now, you can't really be sure just by looking at that. Some people are forgetful in setting their traps (We've all been there). Before going to the Trap Probe, you can check their comm first. Sometimes you'll see a good samaritan post saying 'Halcyon' or 'Red badge'. This'll give you a better idea on the chances of a halc. Alternatively you can peek at their legion. Depending on their legion and your PvP experience with them, you'll know if the halc is there.

If you're still unsure, now you can use a Trap Probe. But only use your trap probes on people with 3/5/5 or less. Anything higher than that (4+/6+/6+) and they DO NOT have a halcyon on them. If you see their actions at 2/5/5, you've got a 50/50 chance of hitting a halc. Here are the chances of a halc, based on my own experience with the Trap Probe.

0 Traps: Kill him, raid him, hack him. (or her)
1 Trap: Could be a QFT or a Halc. If you see a hack missing from the actions count, it's probably a halc.
2 Traps: It's probably what you'd see if that hack was still there, or they have a KVT on too.
3 Traps: Unlikely to be found, but when you see it it could be that someone hit the halc for you and you get the kill.
4 Traps: Very rarely is this never a halc. Don't risk it.
    5 Traps: No
6 Traps: Omicron, KVT, QFT, Halc, Bane and Theta.

Oh, and if you're STILL unsure (#1 you're paranoid) then bump him and save yourself the trouble. Of course, you should always go for those with 4+/6+/6+ on them since you're guaranteed the kill if you have the energy and/or patience. But this is worst case scenario and you're filled up with 3/5/5.

As for hacking, a halcyon doesn't stop hacks. So if you want to zero both raids and hacks. Do hacks first. That way if you DO run into a halc, at least you've got the hacks.

BAM, that's how you avoid a halc! Crazy right??

Being Alerted:

It's a two way street. When you PvP, you must accept that you run the risk of being alerted. If you don't, you're only gonna cause yourself unwanted problems. You can be the most levelheaded, polite gentleman (or woman) ever and yet still end up alerted even if it was just a hack that gave you a single research point. Again, not everyone has your mindset. Some people don't just shake off a badge hit as easily as you would and take it personally. They may even leave you nasty comms.

It's all part of the risk.

Null Fuses & KVTs:

Quit complaining about the lack of null fuses. You'll get more as you increase your arti count. IF you are so desperate, use your Trap Probes to weed out the KVTs. Just follow the thinger I have above.

Multiraiding, Multihacking and Padding Stats:

First, no sh*t multiraiding and multihacking are for padding stats. That's like saying you use energy to do missions.

Unless you've done something to get yourself on their news feed, like taking a planet or disabling them, they are padding their stats on you. Why? Because it's part of the game. There's two reasons why you got killed. You either did not wear a halc, or you forgot that when you PvP, people can hit you back. And sometimes those people don't follow the rules you follow. Does that make it right? Depends on who's asking who. Me? Sure, but I'm biased towards the hardcore guy since I'm going for 5k raids.

Whining about people padding their stats won't stop them from padding their stats. Why do people pad their stats? For the same reason people try and beat the highscore of an arcade game. It's the challenge of getting there that matters, not proving how tough you may or may not be.

And yes, there are people who are complete scumbags and zero people to farm them or intentionally cause problems. Those people aren't who I'm talking about. I'm talking about the people who compete for the leaderboards, and the leaderboards alone.

Celebrating Your #th Kill On The Forum:

Congrats on your #th kill, but in reality no one honestly cares and it doesn't deserve a new topic about it. Post on Asheron's Milestone thread if you want to immortalize it.

People With Zero Disables:

This has happened to me a few times as well. I agree that something should be done about that. Trust me, when (or if) you hit that point, you'll understand.

And that's all I have to say about that. Bottom line: PvP is only one aspect of the game and it is one that can easily be mastered if you apply yourself and give yourself a decent strategy to maximize your effective bodycount.
