Should I finish the "Decrypting the vault" mission early?

I've been thinking about that, and right now, I'm leaning towards actually doing it, and getting rid of those annoying data analyzers. While they do give a nice XP return, they also dilute my pool of NPC's, and lower my chances of scanning a troop carrier, or the Caelon...

What do you think?

Wiki says

Quote:
Note: Many players choose to begin the mission: Decrypting the Vault and leave it unfinished, as the supplementary research available from killing these npcs is usually worth more than the research structures in the follow-on mission.

However I have been told that they are annoying little things with a low damage cap and as you said they could dilute the pool of rarer NPCs. The recommendation given to me by my legion mates is to finish the mission as soon as you can.

Eventually you will start hoping your rp planets get taken as you finish the research tree and Scientists take over your ship. You'll also be looking for way to kill more npcs per level (not using xp buffs, doing purger mission) etc, so those that give the extra xp rewards you'll want to get rid of.

assassins >> 6 shots
flamehawks >> 7 shots

those white demons >> 6 shots / just as common as flamehaws

Research planets still provide funds for your ship. I would finish it after all your research is done , including the base tech.

Something to keep in mind though is that they are pretty helpful when you are doing the Carthyne Symposium legion mission. Otherwise you have to wait for collectors or the occasional siege cannon. (I'm aware that there are more rogue members, but those three seem to show up the most often.)

Also to keep in mind is that for the low/mid ranks these give a higher XP/Energy ratio than many of the other NPCs so if you have difficulty autoranking on NPCs, it might be good to keep them around for a bit

^^ what Squishy said.

I kept them around til about rank 655 or so and then I auto-ranked my way through the mission to get rid of them. A lot of XP, but totally worth it if you prepare for it with enough engineers so you don't have to use an RSL and just use a neural. They were very helpful early on when I was just getting my NPC auto-ranking feet beneath me, but after awhile I learned to hate the little white buggers.

Well, as I can, and have been able to autrorank off NPC's for the last 300 ranks, and have 300-400 spare nrg each rank, I should be fine without them. I've hated them a lot for the last 100 ranks or so, as they dilute my pool of nPC's and lower my chance o finding something good. Not that I can really complain of my NPC luck... I have better luck than most of my legion-mates somehow. :P

btw, I finished the mission at rank 655, not 755. Not sure what I was thinking there, except that the last 200 ranks have been a speedy blur.
