Ok so I hack a guy who has no scan or cloak where as I have 206 scan and 490 cloak, I also have 3 cipher bots installed. How comes I hack him and CRITICALLY FAIL losing a good planet to him (which he then fluxed) then after that failed the next 3 hacks with message enemy computers have blocked the hack?

Size Class - Light Cruiser
Weapons - offline
Energy - F.A.T.H.E.R. x2, Omicron Injector
Sensors - Continuum Parser
Hull - Perfect Fermionic Armor x4, Protean Armory x3
Shields - Harmonic Resonator
Cloaking - offline
Defenses - Trinity-Core Drive

However he did not have the Continuum Parser installed when I had hacked him multiple times

everyone starts with 1 scan so there is a chance, although very very unlikely that they can defend a hack. basically i'd say its bad luck, ether that or they had a buff from like a tach cylinder or something like that.

He had no effects on either but that's a pretty luck guy to be able to block my hacks seeing as I have 3 cipher bots +21% hack and I'm a hacker which has +30%

always a chance at falure. no word on the percentages .. but given that planet invasions cap at 90%, i would not be surprised if there were always a 10% chance of failure in hacking or raiding.

you just failed 2 rolls in a row ... you got the (10% ?) failure on the first roll, and then got another (10% ?) failure on the critical.

if those numbers hold up ... then you will always have a 1% chance of a critical hack failure ... hence why hacking is less attractive in pvp versus raiding. i do not mind losing a redshirt here or there ... but losing a good planet ? nyah.

The first thing I did was check the wiki on hacking. I still don't understand how we managed to block my hack 3 times and cause me to critically fail.

Post a list of his current ship configuration. Perhaps he has a mod that provides scan that isn't listed under scan mods.

Small ships tend to change up their modules when they hack... He might have uninstalled a bunch of his hull and replaced it with cloak to hack you.

My thought too, this sounds like standard bad luck, like failing three 90% invades and then crit failing the fourth. It happens, and yes, hacking sucks.
