 Looking for PvP advice

(These stats are with Spy Probes). That is my point here...what gives?

NB: I don't think this formula has been confirmed by Dan, but I trust the players that came up with it xD

If you look at the formula, the "attack" refers to your attack, "defense" refers to the enemy ship's defense, and "damagecap" refers to the enemy ship's damage cap when you are attacking (either decks/2 or [rank+19]/2). At the same time, it can be used to calculate the damage you take, since it's also attack of the enemy ship versus your defense, as a percentage of your damage cap.

The "random" refers to a random number between 0.6 and 1.666.

Applying damage per shot = tanh( attack*(random(0.6 to 1.666)) / (defense * 5) ) * damagecap:

Let's say both you and your enemy have 5000 attack and 1000 defense, and the enemy has 500 decks (damage cap is 250) while you have 2000 decks (damage cap is 1000). We'll use 1 as the random number.

The first portion of the formula, tanh (attack*(random number, in this case 1)) / (defense*5), will give you 0.76, or 76% of the damage cap. Multiplied by the damage cap, this gives 190 damage against their ship vs 760 damage against your ship.

Now let's say you have 10000 attack and 2000 defense (1000 cap), while the enemy ship has 5000 attack and 1000 defense (250 cap). We'll still use 1 as the attack multiplier because the math is prettier that way.

You'll do tanh [ (10000 * 1) / (1000 * 5) ] * 250 damage, or 241 damage, to their ship (you hit 96% of their cap).
They'll do tanh [ 5000 * 1) / (2000 * 5) ] * 1000 damage, or 462 damage, to your ship (they hit 46% of your cap).

Again, that's because damage done is a percent of the damage cap.

Does that make a bit more sense?

Senatorhung, I'm sorry but the PvP post seems like a TL:DR kind of part of the thread. Chiaro, your idea seems better, the logic anyway. Forget about the math. I kind of understand it a lot more now. I think
