there are many theories to what you should be researching, however i find investing in the research itself of defences lets you use less buildings on the desired planet for the same output, freeing more room for more research structures meaning more revenue ... also take the time to modify your buildings, class 6s are a good strength and class 8s will last you a long time and output double what the early class 3 and 4 buildings were outputting
