I opened a radiant weapon locker artifact and got a nice weapon as expected. Its too big to be installed, yet it looks like it is still getting added to my maintenance costs.
I don't know if that's intended. Does uninstalled equipment still add to maintenance costs?

no, do the math to make sure it is being added, if it is, contact Dan.

All equipment, installed or not, adds to your upkeep. If you determine that you cannot afford an item, it might be worth it to sell...

I got one, but it won't open ... I've got plenty of space for it, if the darn box would unlock :S

You need cargo space too.. not just Hull. I don't think it autoinstalls.

Hull has almost nothing to do with space, you must not have enough cargo or deck to either hold it or equip it Sweaty

I thouroghly agree. chances are it will be bigger and better than anything you have on the ship at the time, like getting a psionic amplifyer when all you have researched is laser weapons.

This is not always the case, I got a Radiant Weapon Locker (from artifact shipment) and had space in my cargo, it decided to give me a weapon I can already make (Heavy Disruptor Cannon) at rank 84 I was hoping for something I couldn't make :(

I would love to see Dan make this more rare and have a unique weapon based on rank/race/profession.

The weapon it gives you is dependent on your rank and a random number. If you have particularly good weapons for your rank then it's probably better to save your weapons lockers for when you're a higher rank.
