Reflection bounces off scan waves, refraction lets the waves in but slower, diffraction lets the waves in but goes around the planet.

Endless Planet
Rare
No matter how far you go into the planet, there is no solid ground or the other side of the planet. It is a unique type of Gas Planet.

Minerals: Extremely Sparse-Average
You can extract some gases to make solid materials but it would be massive amounts in order to do so.

Artifacts: Sparse-Very Abundant
Same as the minerals but much more than massive amounts.

Research: Very Rich-2x Mega Rich
Endless planet?! We'll have to do a massive amount of research on this planet!

Passive Abilities:
Endless Gravity > +200 Defense
Projectiles will be pulled in like a Black Hole, but when it reaches its end, it will damage the planet.

Limit:
Terraformers and Expanders are not able to increase the size or production of this planet, hence its name "Endless."

Unique Ability:
In order to make solid ground to construct buildings, you will need to use an artifact (Gas Solidifier) to do so.
(You can have as many used on this planet but the artifact has to be found by disabling Uncommon-Rare NPCs or Missions)

I like the idea of chrome planet. That would be an awesome planet. 8-)

Space will be added to the current planet depending on what size the sub planet.

A planet that consists of a massive army of infantry, aircraft, tanks, ships, etc. Whoever commands these armies will be able to command and conquer!

Mining/Artifact/Research: Rich
Seems that this planet was never attacked due to the massive armies. Everything on the planet is preserved.

Passive Abilities:
Nationalism + Patriotism > +300 attack + defense
The armies that you command will protect you and this planet.

Very Rare

This planet is created by one holographic machine on the planet.

Mining/Artifact/Research: Very Rich
Wonder what is going on that untouchable planet!!!

Passive Abilities:
Holographic Field > Need to attack this field in order to colonize or invade this planet. Goes down in 5-10 shots.

Phased World - Random stats, nothing special, but naturally cloaked as its matter is slightly out of phase with the rest of the universe. Bonus passive cloak.

Phantom World - Made with a mix of exotic matter - exotic matter requirement for structures is halved. Or, can be mined?

Cryo planetoid - small to tiny worlds with mineral wealth.

Sterile World - Extreme changes of hot and cold due to tight elliptical orbit of parent star, natural life of any known kind is impossible here without the aid of advanced technology. (Bonus defensive - such planets are overlooked as unlikely places to inhabit).

Heavy metal world - Abundance of natural heavy elements, more dense than metallic worlds, richer in mining resources, but minus population growth/limit.

Neutron world - Orbits a neutron star. Research abundance.

Dynamo World - Powerful natural magnetic fields whip and fluctuate resulting in abundant natural energy. Has high resource stats and bonus invasion defence. The field acts like a natural shield.

Molten world - virtually liquid rock and metal due to either radioactive decay or tidal friction forces. Highly unstable but rich in mineral wealth. Low population limit.

Ember World - The cooled core of a dead star, rich in metals, radioactive and thermally active.

Drifting/rogue world - Ejected from it's parent solar system/galaxy - received no light, ultra cold, artifact bonus. Potentially some passive cloak too?

Bio world - formed from vast clouds of naturally created organic matter. Population bonus, research and artifact bonuses.

Hollow planet - a once hot, swollen world, now cold, its core collapsed, the planet essentially is dead. Abundant artifact resources.

Just a few that crossed my mind.

What about possible modifiers to planets, as opposed to new types entirely? These would just add passive effects to the existing types of planets.
For example:

Mineral-Rich Moon: +2 base mineral production (NOT Availability bonus %, just production)
Ancient Ruins: +2 base artifact production
Research Outpost: +2 base research production

Hostile Fauna: Double costs to colonize or invade

Tidally Locked: -30% population, +50% mineral availability bonus
Bright Sun: +25% to planetary cloak, -25% population

How would new players respect a game that is absent of the laws of physics?!

The modifiers to planets sounds cool, they'd just need to figure out how to make that work with the system already in place. Some people might not like having random modifiers added to planets they have, especially if those modifiers have downsides.

White Dwarf
Rare
Size: Very Small - Small

About the size of Earth, but MUCH heavier, these stars are remains of a star that has just collapsed.

Mining: Very Rich-3x Mega Rich
Very dense, lots and lots of mining to do!

Artifact/Research: None
Nothing to find here.

Chances of Research to be Abundant.

Brown Dwarf
Uncommon
Size: Small - Average

Too little mass to create nuclear fusion. Still dense but not as much as other dwarf stars.

Mining: Extremely Abundant - Very Rich
Dense enough for minerals to be created.

Artifact: Very Sparse - Sparse
There may have been artifacts after this "star" became a dwarf star...

Research: Average
There may be some research outbreaks leading to the discovery of the "star" before this dwarf star.

Neutron Star
Very Rare
Size: Very Tiny - Tiny

Very dense but smaller. One teaspoon of the surface could be millions of tons!

Mining: Extremely Rich - 7x Mega Rich
More dense, more power, more minerals!

how about a phasing planet of any type. would be rich or better in production, but randomly phases out, removing this production from players output. maybe would have higher chance to produce higher level artifacts?
