What do you think about all the effects like the volcanic surges and drops for unstable planet I suggested?

I think the idea is cool, but I have no idea if Dan would be able to do something like that. I'm guessing that your idea would be filed under "Way down the road." There are many ideas in the forums that are "Way down the road."

'Rouge Planet' -- there are some planets who have been flung free of their star systems, while these tend to be on the small/average side they can cone in any size all the way through colossal.

These planets would not (or woudl rarely) appear in scans. instead you would get an alert that an anomaly was detected on your news page, and could have a set # of chances to scan for the anomaly and detect it.

obviously this could be used to allow for many types of random events per player not just rouge planets. You would then have to 'capture' the planet through some means to give t a stable orbit around a sun.

"Binary Planets"

Planets paired (usually a very large planet (vlarge to colossal) with a good resource and a lesser planet which is more likely barren but can be volcanic or exotic or Terra, or even a second very massive gas planet or something.

the planets would have two sets of resources and two sets of building slots, but attack and defense woudl be shared between them. (it may be simpler just to combine the resources and the planet slots together because being so close the buildings may be able to affect the sister planet.

How about Demon planets? They were in Star Trek (Officially known as Y class planets). They are some of the most hostile-to-life environments known in the universe and are ultra rare. But they are massively rich in minerals.

In the game they could perhaps allow for the construction of all structures EXCEPT population structures. They would be like the ultimate in Toxic planets.

I do have a couple ideas for different planet types, but kind of in the same vein, I would like to see more artifacts like the mass surface melter that allow changing one planet type into another...that is one of the coolest things in the game at least in my opinion. It doesn't have to be "the same" persae as making the planet go from average to good, but just something to add to the flavor of planets and allow further customization.

Planet type: Lagash or permanent sun (not sure what else to call it).

The planet from "Nightfall" (Isaac Asimov) which is called Lagash. Basis of planet is that it has no night-time except once every (I think it is about 5000) years when another moon/planet in eliptical orbit causes an eclipse. Another example that I can name is Pitch Black the movie, which has a very similar storyline behind it.

Obviously the planet type does not have to have a night time at all as far as the game goes, and since it has permanent sunlight, I think high minerals and artifacts, but poor research would probably be a good bet. Obviously a rare to super-rare planet, and other then that, not sure what else to do with it.

Name(type) obviously would be helpful, but afraid I am not that creative...

All the other ideas I could come up with were taken: I liked the creamatoria idea (Mercury) type planet. Not sure what to do about it, but that type of planet would have a night-time that would be insanely cold, so you could theoritically do research maybe? So maybe high minerals, medium research and low artifacts since the abuse the planet takes destroys all artifacts...

The mined out idea, or different civilizations that no longer lived on the planet but left their imprint so to speak... Low minerals (mined out) but high artifacts and medium research.

And suggestions for asteroid fields (probably easier to implement now), moons and stars...kind of like to see that kind of direction but not sure how it would be implemented..

The proper name for a planet like that is "Tidally Locked". Remus from Star Trek was a planet like that as well. The light side of the planet was bathed in eternal sunlight and deadly to life, while the dark side of the planet was cold and harsh - but habitable. There is a band of temperate land around the border between night and day though.

The Moon and Ganymede, one of Jupiter's Moons, are also Tidally Locked.

Since the planet is pretty harsh, there could alo be a limit of the population structures of some kind, on top of the bonuses and restrictions you suggested.

I supose you mean stuck facing the center of it's orbit, because the moon is stuck facing Earth, not stuck facing the sun.

2 Planet Types that will be added to the game:

Gaia (Better version of Terra Planets) - already in the game. Available at high rank Drannik mission chain.
Sentient (massive colonizable organisms) - not yet in game, but thought this would be fun to see.

Its not exactly the same, the planet is bathed all around in sunlight 24/7 all the way around, because of multiple suns.

In the book, the planet was in a six-star system and there was never a time when there would not be at least one star in the sky.

I like those new planet types a lot, seems like a good direction.

edit: thought of a couple names: sunbeamed, sunbaked, etc. I also thought of sunburst, but yea...wouldn't work.

Nice dan, if you ever add any of the other ideas (many are great for terraformers).

Though the living planets some could be made out of plant matter and just not massive animals and single cell.

The thought of a small moon growing a network of trees big enough that its as big as a gas giant is kind of neet and funny.

hmm, well if dan seems to prefer making items that turn existing planets into the new ones then I'll suggest a few along those lines:

Goo

An upgraded Desert planet upon which self-replicating nanites went out of control, and were only able to be deactivated when they finished converting all resources into copies of themselves and went dormant for want of additional building material. Obtained by using a 'Grey Goo' artifact upon a Desert world (specifying Desert entirely on the fact that I'm imagining the inert Goo world nanites to resemble sand)

Resort - inspired by Risa (of Star Trek fame, is spelling right?)

An Oceanic world with superior climate controls that ensure the perfect conditions for vacationing at all times. Obtained by use of a 'Precipitation Programmer'

I might edit this post if I can think of a good idea for turning a gas planet into something else, like right now

Hidden

Occasionally when a Gas planet gets Fluxed, it's new location ends up occupying the exact same spot as a smaller planet. This smaller planet, completely enveloped by the larger Gas planet, is completely undetectable without a special artifact known as a "schrodinger's box". Upon opening the box while in orbit of a Gas planet, your sensors instantly reveal if such a planet lurks mysteriously within.

Schrodinger's Box, for thematic reasons, has a chance to fail to find a Hidden planet within a Gas planet. If a failure occurs, all future uses will automatically fail unless the planet has once again been fluxed. The new planet is 2-4 sizes smaller than the original Gas planet but has insanely high resources

How about Ice-X planets? They are icy planets that when a mass surface melter is used, has a decent chance of being something other than exotic, maybe even re-arranging the stats of the planet.

Example:
Type: Ice-X
Size: Average
Mining Extremely Sparse
Artifact Extremely Abundant
Research Extremely Abundant

Becomes:
Type: Toxic
Size: Very Large
Mining Very Rich
Artifact Average
Research Very Rich

Basically, using the melter could be a gamble. In this case, you have reduced your artifact production but increased your mining. As a bonus, the planet has become toxic so you can use toxic mining upgrades on it.

There could be Ice-T (terrain), Ice-V (volcanic), etc. Nothing says that all icy planets should become oceanic.

how about planets that have def and atck bonuses built into them like the mining/ rp/ ap..... for example an astroid feild for mining but due to it being a big feild it has a bonus to defence seeing its harder to get into or a reason so instead of the X1 mega rich mining its a X5% or even the ability to locate and harnes commets that produes rp.. or energy for your ship with the added ability to cloak power...somthing on that line would be nice. having the added abilities added or to include the other planet abilities...

Just remembered another good one:

A Well World

It is an ancient lab planet where many races where created. It has a bunch of hexes which still contain life (each hex as a lab chamber).

This may not be feasable but how about a planet type that acts as huge depot and extends a player's capacity to hold mineral and artifact production points instead of producing its own.

Maybe not even a planet but a space depot. At high levels, production quickly outpaces a players capacity to store production points. This would be a valuable addition to an already well fleshed out planet roster.

Oh, just thought of one so good I'm going to reply to my own post.

Relic World.

A rare planet type that holds the ruins of an extinct advanced civilization. Adds +1 to the normal limit allowed of each kind of chassis or artifact improvement.

The 'Sentient' Planet type has been added. This is currently the only planet type that has a passive attack/defense (not requiring structures), as the planet will naturally fight back against attackers.

Hint Below:
This type is available through the higher rank 'Titancore AI' mission chain.

Great, and what level does the Titancore AI mission unlock?

So to make sure I am correct, the current "new" planet types are gaia (from upgraded terras), crystal (from upgraded desert), and sentient?
