I still say no more dominion cannons. There needs to be a more... rewarding reward.
Badge modules at the moment:
Hacking: +21 point something percent chance, +100 scan and 100 cloak, both help with hacking. Cost (total) 632 blue badges
Raiding: +21 point something percent chance, +600 hull (defensive if anything). Cost: 240 Yellow badges (i.e. 240 disables, with fails close to 300)
Invading: +14 point something percent chance, +200 invasion attack. Cost: 28 greens.
Disables: +450 attack. Cost: 512 Red badges. At ranks 200+, that's probably at least 400 Null fuses. That's over 1.2M AP, assuming you get a null fuse every time, which you don't. If you bought the Mk1s when that's all there was, that's a total cost of 672 Red badges. Put it this way, you're gaining 0.9 attack for everyone you disable.
Now, at least for me, it's 10 hits on average per disable. 50 energy. 50*672 = 33600 energy. No matter what rank, that is a LOT of energy, especially when even most missions give a better exp ratio than pvp, and by gaining those extra ranks you could have tactical officers which'd do the same job, AND help raiding.
ANOTHER upgrade, say costing 200 badges a time, Would be an EXTRA 800 red badges. 800+512+an extra 160 for some people is 1472 disables to get a full lot of them.
Let me put that into perspective. Currently, 50th on the kills leaderboard is 1596 kills. There'd probably be less than 100 people in the game who could afford them if they'd bought Mk1s, then mk3s as they've gone along. Newer/lower levelled people, who get badges far easier anyway, only need 800 kills.
Why I'm opposed to the whole "more dominion cannons" thing.
1) People were annoyed that they'd "wasted" 160 badges when the mk3s came out. Imagine the backlash when people find they've wasted a further 512 badges.
2) Once you've got the cannons, most people don't PvP as intensively, and they rank up far faster. Higher rank = Tougher to get badges.
3) The rewards aren't that great anyway. 450 attack for ober 30K energy is terrible. Some mission chains which drop modules give better than that.
I'm NOT opposed to NEW red modules. Just not more of the same ones which lots of people have wasted a lot of time energy on already. Vette has the right idea here:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20469The gemini cannons and trinties have almost killed PvP already - I think another dominion cannon would be the final nail in the coffin. Something to even the playing field would be far better.
