It's bad enough you get disabled or whatnot. But an empty message to go along with it? No thanks. I think I know when someone is badging me.

The point of this is yes, people post "badges" because some expect it.... some of you don't.... some of you simply don't care and will Legion Alert anything that movies and then beg for mercy when you meet a Legion far more powerful than yours expecting e-honour. If you're not of these descriptions then don't take offense but if you are.... well simply put the auto-badging message or custom msg would be IMHO best an option also to opt out of receiving. That way those who are so annoyed by not getting a badge message by casual badgers due to someone not wishing to spend energy (and please don't tell me 5 energy isn't that much for a badge message when you're trying to do it many many times a day which can add up). So the concept of the idea isn't to impose it on anyone who wouldn't want it. The concept of the idea is to .... A)Decrease the time in your life you have to waste posting "badge" or whatever every time. B)Decrease energy wasted on simple pleasantries expected as if it's a given right by certain people who may be of any rank. C)Help you the badger; identify who you've already badged. So in short, perhaps it would be better if there was an ICON you could mouse over and see whether you already badged them in 24H or not. Which would possibly be better than this idea and eliminate the energy wasting of comm messages and "just badging" or "badging". There needs to be a user friendly way for those who wish to evade going past just badging someone. On the other hand the auto-message could be more socially friendly if energy costs were gone or nerfed for the use of the feature to something like 3-4 energy. Or perhaps the energy usage could stay the same old 5. The point is it'd still help by cutting time wasting activities that someone may or may not care about

God I miss the old days when PvP was Pvp, not this "Oh I made you spend credits to repair your ship even though you have less potential credits because I raided you and also slowed down your progress by taking your research points, but it's OK, it was just badges" crap.

-1 Only reason i put "Badges" on someone's comm, is to keep track of who i have killed. If i hit you in the last day ill try and bump you off my tab, I don't want to be the bullying type. If your remove the comm well you just might get hit a second time, but then its your problem.
If your looking for an easy way to post on comms, Ctrl + C your quick message and Ctrl + V on the comms you attack very simple.

-1, gotta agree that posting "badge" is pointless. As DF said you should be smart enough to puzzle it out on your own. When people leave badge on my comm its just a mild annoyance in having to go delete it.
The idea of having an icon pop up to tell you if you already badged someone in the last 24 hrs has some merit though.

'smart enough' i think really depends on level / length of play. the longer you play, the more aware you are of how much badging is just part of the game. curiously, i've seen someone indicate that they legion-alerted a badger for 'disrespecting' him by NOT posting badge on his comm. i lol'd - that's really taking things too far the other way. however, i have managed to raid someone twice in 2 hours as they had repaired and deleted my 'weekly badge' comm - the only reason i knew was that i didn't get a badge for the 2d raid. oh, and i just got the medal for 1000 raids earlier this afternoon - now deciding whether to switch to hacks / disables or stick to raids until i hit the leaderboard

I don't bother to leave a comm, and I don't really care if other players do or not. The reason behind a disable is usually obvious. Typing "badge", for someone who would not otherwise already know that, isn't going to help them.
As far as tracking who has disabled who in last X number of hours: no one is stopping any of us from doing so. I would argue that if it's on the BT, it's fair game, but that's just me.

Few quick thoughts:
1. Thanks Spaceblue for trying to come up with a compromise approach in the game. You get a +.5 from me just for the new idea. We are talking about a war game, but we are also talking about a game where there is an expectation of etiquette but no real standard etiquette. I'll never forget when a high ranking, well respected player told me he answered a legion mate's alert because I "pvp him while he was npcing." WTHeck? LOL. Said person could have been blowing smoke, (especially when he acknowledged that his legion mate attacked me first), but still that is when I saw just how abstract our notions of proper game manners. So again, kudos to you for trying the compromise.
2. The term "badging" didn't originate with the lower ranks because they weren't even around (assuming they are not slow playing). It also likely didn't start from ships currently in the middle ranks (300-700); though some probably use it now. They too would have been much smaller when the concept was first developed. Thus, I am left with the conclusion that it most likely was conceived by and used previously by ships that are now at least 700+. The reason for mentioning this is the irony. After it seemed to serve its usefulness, it was then deemed as "silly" or a "waste of energy;" probably by some of the very people who used to type it all the time.
3. For those of you not hip to the deviousness of Pvp, you need to know that the term "badge" was also code language folks. The term was written in various formats and was used to signal other ships who understood the code. For example, if ship A got a disable and an EASY raid off of ship B, then ship A might write on the comm, "badge[S]." Instead of just saying, "badge," you make the word plural, and you have now signaled to other friendly ships that this sucker is an easy raid. The same thing is true if someone uses some type of short hand, "Bg" "BG" "Bgs" "Badging" and so on and so on. What you think is a message for you under the pretense of diplomacy is really a billboard for other players. And for those of you who think "Bump" is an acceptable message, you don't know what is going on either. Bahahaha

Truthfully the main reason why i comm badge is simple the 5 energy cost isn't a drop in a bucket to me and I'm keeping track of who I've hit and who i haven't if they remove it to soon and i beat them again well that's there own fault now isn't it? And before you people say keep a "note book handy then" if i wanted to lug around a stack of paper when playing a game i would go play dungeons & dragons.

yes~ replace notepad with toilet paper.
you're using their comms as a notepad, so ain't much different using "Notepad" or even a Proper notepad, other than effort.

I have to give this one a -1 myself as I am using this method of posting on somebodies wall when hacking someone to leave a message as I don't want to waste energy because I have excess energy and I am about the level up.

-1.
Everybody knows when something is a "badge" and when it is not, including the dumb <female_dog>'s that complain about badging - they just like to complain and poop their pants every now and then. That being said, "badge" really means nothing. Players can attack/retaliate regardless of what is written on comms. I badge people all the time and never bother to write anything on their comm. If I did, it wouldn't make a difference in terms of how they react (or not) or retaliate (or not).
Everyone: Get over it. There is a Battle Tab, it's part of the game, and if you can't stomach it, go play FarmVille and leave the rest of us alone. And don't you dare put up a halcyon, because I will zero your damn hack counter.
