i would perfer block X or "a% of damage cap" whichever is lower.
this way, you could block the full damage if you have high enough def, but you can't always block full dmg just cause dmg cap is low.

darth's first issue, the exact defintion requirement for "no artifact used" is a valid one.
But frankly, his second one, about a near-disable-emp is barely short of trolling. Can you really see any validity(of signifcance) in that?

Pvp:
Raids, hacks, disables (ones within badge range included), paying badges (none of these are actually good imo but you wanted suggestions)

Thanks for backing me up Pony, but I got this...

No, I'm not a pessimist. I am a realist. And unlike 99% of the sheep that show up in the Suggestion forum with their speed click +1, I actually stop and think about ideas from more than one angle. Until such time as someone else steps up to REGULARLY point out flaws and potential exploits/abuses of suggestions, I'm going to continue being the devil's advocate around here.

I never dismissed the whole idea. In fact, with a little work, it could have potential. I'm just pointing out that the way you propose for this thing to rank up won't work.

And to whoever said "that'll never happen" or whatever, when I go on a full-on PvP run, at least 3 red badges get stolen EVERY time. Be it me snaking an easy red after someone else did all the work, or vice versa. So guess what? Snaking is gonna happen with this idea too.

I respect the fact that you stop to think about these things, and frankly, it's great that you do. We need more people like you who can think for themselves, and who can weed out the good from the bad.

The only issue here is, if you believe an idea has merit (which, you do in this case), tell us how it can be made better and post something that I may not have thought of. That's the whole purpose behind brainstorming, and in the end, a lot more people will be happier and a lot more ideas will become realized, and better for it.

So, respectfully, instead of posting all negatives, post some improvements too.

As for you Pony, I'm not even going to touch that.

Honestly I think aside from saying we need another ally (something to get people to do the old things more) this is a terrible idea.

Look at all the allies we have already.

The starting stats are all fixed amounts. The only one that is % is the final one when the ally is completed. Which leads me to my second complaint about your ally...you have so many % boosts it is over powered for easily repeatable task which can be done with in a few days.

My third complaint is your ally doesn't have a set # of times you can rank it a day. There is no built in timer for it, it is very possible to kill 100+ people who are 100+ ranks within a week, but only for lower ranks. You need to have that so people who are active rank it and not someone who comes on for a few days and then suddenly finishes it. Notice the others' requirements all have timers, bases, daily missions, invasions. Do something with a timer built in, disables are not good for this.

Stats that might be acceptable might be like

rank 1: +80 energy +60 shields (before rank bonus)
rank 30: +100 Defense vs base or NPC(before rank bonus)
rank 60: + 50 defense(before rank bonus)
rank 100: -10% upkeep (fixed no additional from rank bonus)

Maybe have the way to rank it be open the Dark Rootnode.

How to get the ally: Super rare NPC (caelon rare) with 4k cloak.

This is just an example, but it is a lot more likely than your idea to be implemented.

Now who's being an asshat when I'm trying to stay respectful...look, no idea is supposed to be all one person. It's retarded to believe that one person should come up with all the ideas, since that's limiting your resources to the one person's imagination only.

So get off your pedestal and contribute to the community instead of saying that one person has to "do all the work". If you comment, have the decency to suggest a few improvements, otherwise, tell them their idea simply won't work.

Fluffy, thank you for your input, it is appreciated even if it does have a bit of extremism.

Here's my attempt to "fix it" using the suggestions for improvement I actually did get.

Rank 1: 50 Attack, 100 Hull
Rank Bonus: None

Rank 30: 140 Attack, 250 Hull
Rank Bonus: 5% chance to boost NPC attack by 15% for 5 minutes

Rank 60: 230 Attack, 400 Hull
Rank Bonus: 5% chance to boost NPC attack by 15% for 5 minutes and 5% chance to block incoming attacks, removing damage (according to some cleverly thought out formula involving rank) from one hit and reducing condition by 10%.

Rank 100: 350 Attack, 600 Hull
Rank Bonus: 10% chance to boost NPC attack 15% for 5 minutes and 10% chance to block incoming attacks, removing damage (according to some cleverly thought out formula involving rank) from one hit and reducing condition by 10%.

Increase rank by disabling ships while under the effects of a Krionus Virus.

Because it's a fighter interceptor, which is meant to be an ACTUAL ally, which can support your ship. Imagine a fighter from your fighter bay which is deployed to help defend your ship, and you'll see that my original plans followed this design.

Like the kvt idea. Have thought for awhile something like that should exist, but like fluffy mentioned there needs to be a timer.

Also think it should be harder maybe 3kills while under the effect of the same kvt, but only ranks when you claim your daily reward. (so 1 rank per 20 hours max.)

Bonus' are not going to work.
