We already get five galaxy points for free every so often; I know I've gotten that for a daily reward at least once every two months. That already has the effect you say you're looking for, of introducing newbies to the wonders of GP.
"Quantitative easing" of GP, by providing a GP a day, would simply end up forcing Dan to raise the amount of GP needed to purchase items to make the same money he makes now. It would also dilute the value of any GP already purchased, a concern for anyone who has purchased one of the larger point packs and not yet used it.
Sales on items would also, I think, be a mistake. Galaxy Legion isn't subscription-based. Item sales are Dan's only revenue, and the demand for items within the game is finite. Under those circumstances, a cut-price sale represents a loss of income rather than a gain; with as comparatively small a player-base as we have, it's unlikely that enough new people would be encouraged to buy GP to buy the items on sale to make up for the loss. Then you have either been extraordinarily lucky, or haven't played long. In nearly 4 years i haven't gotten enough gp from daily rewards to even buy a race change.

If Dan is or not dependent doesn't matter. Say on avg. 100 people buy a $50 pakage every month every year, he makes 60k a year just from that alone. If this is all he has then it may not be a lot to many, but 60k is a decent income especially for a facebook game. If he has other stuff or a working job then an extra 60k a year would only make it better.

Dan doesn't receive 100% of the GP revenue

I have a similar style of game on my phone for my son called Castle Clash. The purchasable currency is gems. For perspective, $5 buys you 600 gems (effectively making GP worth about 100x what a gem is worth). For logging in each day, you get 5 gems + a daily reward which includes between 20-100 gems plus a bonus (lets equate it to a terraformer/toxic purifier each day with a QSE twice a month). The main purpose of the gems is to roll for chances at legendary heroes. Even if you spend $200 on gems, you are not guaranteed of getting ANYTHING you really want. So, while you get more gems for your money, it guarantees nothing. At least with GP, if you get GP, you can spend it on exactly what you want. While I don't buy gems, what it does is make players feel like gems are pretty disposable. As it stands, most people feel like they've got to be pretty sure about how and when they spend their GP, holding off on QSEs because they want to buy the ally in the next seasonal. Getting people to continually use GP is the best way to get them buying more.
The most simple solution is to increase the odds of GP from the daily reward. Get people holding more than 5 GP at a time.

Both, evidently. To the best of my recollection, I've gotten a total of 20 daily-reward Galaxy Points in the six months I've been playing. That's not quite enough to buy a race change with either, but it's close.

20 GP is a race change, something I wouldn't be able to buy in 3 years of dailys excluding spheres
