hey, if we're finding decompressed frozen corpses then they should give research.
1) because they are most likely alien so they will provide new information during the autopsy 2) most likely theyre old, so even if theyre from a familiar race, they probably hold some type of cultural history either in their technology (space suit) or in their common clothes (what theyre wearing under the suit- if anything.) 3) Because if the corpse IS from a discovered race and was modern and well known, it would still be useful to find out why the ship was destroyed, and by who. be it a familiar race or an alien race.

That would make for a cool mission chain to start with finding, cryogentically frozen species.

thats kinda how the taltherian chain starts. you find floating coffins, and when you open em you find taltherian corpses. so i agree, it is a cool mission chain. its one of the more interesting ones ive attempted.

LOL well, considering the blood would be frozen and the body mummified, i guess they could snack on the alien jerky while they wait for the main course. After all, its ok to eat any animal thats not of your own blood. dosnt matter if its sentient or not.

so, what do you think of scanning the debris, choosing to check it or not, and on occasion it can explode. and when guarding a planet you can collide with debris, or other guards.

for me, i love the idea of scanning debris and having positive and negative outcomes. sure, alot of it will get pushed out of the way automatically, but i can definitely imagine your ship scanners alerting you to asteroids with odd magnetic/mineral signatures. And i would assume that any intact pieces of a spaceship would be brought in to be analyzed by the scientists. lol, and you never kno. you may bring in an archaic omicron mine and accidently detonate it on your ship. as for colliding with sattelites and guards, i can imagine finding strange artificial and natural sattelites in orbit (andromeda strain anyone?) and then bringing them into your ship to analyze the properties. but i would hope that without solar winds disrupting communication i would have the good sense not to crash into another ship guarding the planet.

yea, that would screw up people trying to defend against attacks.

I was really hoping for someone to bring up Space Hulks! Two (or more) massive ships collided, killing all the crew, or at least warping them horribly, and now they drift through space filled with evil space bugs or twisted remnants of their former crew who want to crack you open and eat your tasty brains.

I love this idea . If the event does take place, you get a warning 10 mins before impact (if your ship picks it up) if you dont choose an action (Attack, Scan or avoid (all based on your points in that ability would be if you succeeded or not)) within the 10 mins, your ship would automaticly attack/avoid (depending on if your attack or defence is higher) but would never scan without your permission. Attacking would give mineral rewards (failure would be higher damage then usual) Avoiding would give a slight amount of exp (failure would be a normal hit dependant on level) Scanning would give artifact or research rewards (very very very rarely an energy cube or somthing of equal value) (failure would be a massive hit to hull (25-50% of max hull?) as you have to lower your shields to scan it) The quicker you respond the higher your chance. chance starts off at 100%, after 1 min 98% down to 80% after full time has gone. then the factor of your chance due to strength against asteroid size and level for overall chance of success. In my opinion this is the best possible outcome for somthing like this.

lol to the corpse hitting the ship, but guys you dont need to go clean it off, just turn on the windsheild wipers, every ship the 3000th century has one.

my ship doesn't even have windows.... every viewport is actually a multi-spectrum camera on the outer hull and an OLED screen on the inner hull....

No. i don't like the idea to have my hulls degraded by 50%. 20% seems enough since i have over 4k hulls ^^. but i like the other parts of your suggestion!
