Let the server attack for you once every 1-2 seconds and send the results to the client. Server just keeps processing the same attack message until NPC is killed or you tell it to stop. For shared elites/bosses could also end when you've done enough damage to trigger the lock. It would be a trade-off. Not quite as fast as spam-clicking attack yourself, but should simulate it close enough. While it will use some additional resources (timers, storing message), it will not hammer the server with attack messages any worse than manually clicking the attack button would. Should not down an NPC faster than doing it manually. Taking just a bit longer than manual means that using it would be a convenience, and you won't go through NPCs as fast (but still fast enough). Unless the server checks the time between attacks, putting the timer client-side would open it up to someone modifying the client to spam the attack faster than intended (you know someone will have to try). And if the server is going to check anyway, then why not just keep the functionality server-side. Much, of course, would depend on how the server is designed/setup to do things (which only Dan and company should know anything about). tbh, there is no real way to catch simple auto clickers(only to do the attack part and not the targeting/close part). anyone who's gonna break the rule by "hacking" the client side is probably using an auto clicker now. And as such, making it client side won't really be bad cause... rule abiding ppl will still abide the rules. and the rule breakers can already break it anyway.

Some change is in order. Even something similar to Castle Age a button or drop down which you can select 1,5 or 10 clicks at a time.

Yeah, I can't imagine programming a power attack or an attack loop for solo NPCs would be hard. And as long as it doesn't touch PVP or PVBases, I think it's fair and doesn't skew game balance.
As for Auto-leveling, those NPCs are going to get killed either way. at my level the only thing keeping me from auto-leveling on NPCs is the pain and my desire to keep my number of tactical officers relative to rank up. Auto-leveling makes your ship weaker. I stopped rapid leveling when I hit 820. Xeners (my fellow Wombats Co-Founder) was 3 levels behind me at that point. She's now 200+ levels ahead of me, but that's because she keeps speed leveling while I'm taking it slow and steady. I don't want to hit 2200 anytime.

don't know if this would help but when npcing I use my laptop so rather than clicking with the mouse I use the touch pad to click which is a lot easier than clicking the mouse button on my finger. I still use the mouse to control the mouse, just find it a lot easier on my mouse clicking finger as I can switch fingers to tap the touch pad with. Hope this helps!

I also like the idea of an attack until destroyed or attack until acted upon by a proc option. Make it a module you can buy from the GP store or a mission completion award if needed. I know I'd spend the points to save wear and tear on my hand and my mouse.

One of the other things you can do is get a left hand controller.
Like a Belkin Nostromo N50 Game Pad.
You can set multipul buttons on this to be a left mouse click that way you are not using the same hand or even the same finger over and over.

Unfortunately, My desk isn't set up like that. I only have a place for a mouse on the right side of my body. There's empty air on the other side.
